• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Set up a nice base station and install a mobile(s) in your vehicle(s)… It sounds like Simplex is your only option, unless you want to install a repeater...

Are you sure you're using the PL/DCS feature correctly, if it's required by the Repeater???

Hi from Citrus County !

As posted and you checked - mygmrs is the best source of info. It seems as if they are clustered in various areas of the state - In Citrus County everything quiet like a church. We use simplex here at the moment - researching options

Have you noticed some of the Repeater owners haven't logged on to the site in over 10 years??? It kinda makes me question how many of the listed repeaters are on the air presently..

I not familiar with the OP area, but wow, Florida sure has a lot of open systems... Cool..
GMRS repeaters are not open like a ham repeater, where all you need is your ticket. GMRS repeaters are privately owned, & you should contact the repeater owner before assuming its open to the public. In my case, the owner of a GMRS repeater whose also a ham invited me to use his GMRS repeater. The other option is to put up your own GMRS repeater.

Then why would an owner list their system as, "Open" in the database if they require you to ask permission?

Because it’s the courteous thing to do. Those listings are years out of date. There’s a very good chance someone else owns the repeater now. With the world at our fingertips with the internet, what could it take to find the current owner. Five minutes?

So is it common knowledge that the mygmrs database is full of errors. I have found Repeaters listed that have an expired license. There's are some listings that are paper repeaters (no real system).

"Open" repeater does not mean a "public" repeater where one is free to pop on and squat. Someone has to fund it.

Common courtesy is to ASK for permission to use someone else' private property. GMRS, unlike ham, doesn't currently require coordination so one is free to put up there own repeater if they have a site, equipment, etc. and all must share the 8 available pairs by forcing "RX inhibit on busy" on their subscribers...yeah that works, doesn't it.

That is the caveat to any crowd source database. Repeater listings, teleturd spam number databases like HiYA, flop houses on Floppads, etc- all are as good as those submitting the data.
