• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

6’ not 7’.

Does look well-made, but length, weight and wind-load (plus bug-catching) don’t cause me to think it’ll be “better” than a a taller 10-1-27k Predator (far lighter, better streamlining).

— Both are “expensive” relative to a mid-coil SIRIO 5000 as base reference. I’d put an RM ITALY KL703 run at half-power as “the test” for a mobile radio rig (or comparable, least-distortion) as SSB ain’t gonna benefit from much more.

You’ll note he’s in Florida and parks next to the Gulf of America for his range tests.

Being parked I’d use a dialed-in 102” whip.

COWTOWN Predator 10-1-27K.
(14” taller).

IMO, over a foot “matters”. My experience is that it will alter fringe reception capability such that just hearing a man in the distance on AM-19 will switch to also being able to hear to whom he’s speaking in going from identical design/make 6’ to 7’.

With #601 mount on my pickup it puts me at 13.25’ feet, below the 14’ maximum for highway.

The C-T “Perfect” would be at 12’ and a fraction. Gives up potential two feet possible.

Someday, somebody will get us a long-term report on mobile use of the COMPACTenna “Perfect” despite that the manufacturer recommends against regular removal.

King of Goofy Antenna
Which will it be?

As said before in reading reviews or watching videos of CB gear:

One needs to distinguish use.

I’ve written mainly from the perspective of being at speed in an 18-wheeler in use of AM-19.

— Parked at a local high point (or over water) to play on SSB is quite different.

— Base station use is another thing, again.

There are then sub-divisions. I’ve been nationwide 24/7/365 for years. Another man may be a commuter into/out of a major metro, and yet another is nearly always far rural. All of us commenting about how well something does on AM-19 despite vehicle, local conditions, and use by locals as significant differences.

Extrapolate for other categories.

When someone buys the 69” Perfect CB Antenna from COMPACTENNA hopefully they’ll grace us with a thread:

I like the reviewer. He’s got atta-tood. Needed for 11M. (See video comments).

There’ll need to be a shoot-out between this and other exotics like PREDATOR 10K, SIRIO 5000 3/8, WILSON 5000 and some others where the coil is mid-mount and the antenna features a flexible whip.

— Weight is a concern, as is an antennas tendency to collect bugs or ice. “Exotic” as removal when the vehicle is parked to avoid theft and to clean it off is an expectation

In the meantime, well, . . it’s an eye catcher.

I was on vacation when you posted this or I would have laughed at it..... but now that I'm back home I've had time to listen to this guy on 37 LSB a few times.... and I know it works!!!! and it works GOOD.... so all I can say is no comment
no wait....... all I can say is it will never be on my truck.
I do wonder if he has a BIG AMP and a base station with a Yagi as it seemed he had to turn his antenna every time he talked to a different area of the country and is saying it's coming from that little antenna just to sell it?????..... I'll have to wait and see if these ugly monstrosities start popping up

I doubt he’s being deceptive. In videos parked at the shoreline he makes his call’s citing, “mobile”.
