Just tried installin the EZscan software on my new Dell laptop runnin Windows 7!
Error messege reads : Error Launching D:\software\setup.exe

Now what?

That's a known issue with the CD.

I learned long ago to first look for more up to date drivers and software online. If you can find them and they work, toss the CD/DVD in the trash.

Well, it loaded all 200 scanlists n placed the Ciity of Miami Police in Scanjet 1...or so it says, cause while its on my laptops screen, I don't see it on the scanner, (or maybe I don't know how to find it)?

Either way, it ain't scanning ...how do I just load Scanlist 1.?

Should I list 1 channel per Scanjet, so its easier to monitor a particular channel? Such as north patrol south patrol, marine patrol etc?
Btw, happy new year gentlemen

OK, turn off your scanner and plug it into your laptop. Go to Scanner/SD Card drop down menu and select Copy Library to Scanner Memory/SD Card. This may take a little while (maybe 10 min) but do not unplug your scanner from your computer until it is done or else you may mess up the SD card. This will copy everything you have done on your laptop to the scanner. When you turn the scanner back on, it should be working. Good luck and let us know if this works.

It's done n the same thing, it loaded ALL 200 scan lists n it marketed them all as Scan, but I don't hear anything......why does it load all 200 if it stored what I wanted to scan under Scanjet 1...? N why can't I see the alpha tags that it downloaded......?

During the transfer is it supposed to say anything on the scanners LCD?

Well, during transfers mine shows the Time and Date and also a tiny icon at the upper right to indicate that the radio is operating on external power and not on battery power. When the transfers are complete there is no change. Of course, all of this is occurring with the radio turned off.

You had an earlier question:

"........Ciity of Miami Police in Scanjet 1...or so it says, cause while its on my laptops screen, I don't see it on the scanner, (or maybe I don't know how to find it)?"

Press MENU on the scanner until you see -Main Menu- at the top of the LCD.

Use the up/down buttons (top/bottom of the BIG CIRCLE button) to move the small caret on the right side of the LCD to a position opposite the Scanlists option.

Press the right button (right side of the BIG CIRCLE button) OR press the SEL button on the scanner.

Now the top of the LCD should read -Scanlists-

Use the up/down buttons (top/bottom of the BIG CIRCLE button) to move the small caret on the right side of the LCD to a position opposite one of the Scanlists that you want to listen to.

Pressing the SEL button should toggle a small mark to the left of the Scanlist name from a small empty box to a small check mark. Small box is OFF and the small checkmark is ON.

When complete press MENU until you get back to -Main Menu-. Confirm that the small caret at the right side is opposite the Scan option and press the right button (right side of the BIG CIRCLE button) OR press the SEL button on the scanner.

You now should be scanning any Scanlist that was marked with the small check mark.

rwier thank you for your detailed explination.....I did that, (before n now again), n it lists 200 scan lists n all of them have checks, but I hear nothing!
why it loaded 200, I have No idea.......
How would I go about only loading scan list 1, which is where the agency that I want to monitor has been stored ...?

Am hoping that once I remove 199 empty scan lists, that it will scan just the 1 n I'll be able to hear it

EZScan Software....General Settings tab (low left).....Scanlist Control box.......Disable all Scankists.....Scanlist Control box....Enabled column....click on empty boxes of Scanlist you want to listen to........Click on Scanner/SD Card tab (upper left)......MAKE SURE SCANNER IS TURNED OFF........Click on Copy Configuration to Scanner Memory/SD Card........Overwrite warning select Yes.......On my computer I now highlight EZSCANDG (H:)......Click on Continue.....I select Copy Folders.....wait for completion popup notice.

I followed along on this while I was typing and I bet I found something relevant to your problem that I completely forgot about earlier. Near the end of the above, between Continue and Copy Folders, do you see more than one "Folder" in the selection box? If so, your configuration may be only in one of the "Folders" shown. You can select the proper "Folder" from the radio. Let me know if you need the steps for that.

OK yet us try this a different way just to make sure you do not have a bad scanner. First, to make sure you have a scanner data base already downloaded to your radio. Forget about the laptop for now. Go to the main menu of the scanner. Press the drown arrow key until you get to Browse Library. Press the right arrow key and choose the United States. Next you will see a list of states. Page down using the down arrow key on the wheel to FLA. Press the right arrow and select Countries/Cites. Select Miami-Dade. Next select Systems. The first one should be Miami City Public Safety, select that. Use the Select button to select Sites and Categories. Next press the menu key and you will see Import Selection. Press select again and you will see a list of Scan Lists. The first one is the default one so just leave that checked. Now press the left arrow key and the system should start downloading. Press select to continue. You will probably need to press the SEL key three times, Next go back to your menu key and make sure scan list 1 is checked. Press menu key to scan. If nothing happens then you may not have a current RR Library downloaded to your scanner. If you do not have the Library downloaded then it does not matter what you do on the computer, the scanner will not work. There is enough traffic in Miami that you should hear something soon but if there is nothing to scan the radio should tell you. If you get any error message, let us know. You may have a bad memory card or something else. Good luck.

From the EZScan Manual (PDF)(page 37):

"NOTE: The Default Scanlist is always pre-selected for your convenience. If you do not want to import your picked objects into the Default Scanlist, be sure to unselect it before importing. You can change the Default Scanlist in the Settings Menu or with the PSR-800 PC application."
_______________________________________________________________________

My Comment: This has to do with "importing" new "objects" into Scanlists for editing and monitoring. If done with the software these "usually" come from the "Updated Library" in the software. If done in the radio the importing is from the Radio's onboard Library into scanlists for monitoring.

Personally, I make so many changes to Scanlist names, order, objects, etc., that I ignore this "default" setting. An "object's" Scanlist can easily be changed anytime (in the software) from the "Conventional Frequencies" tab, the "Trunked Radio Systems Tab", or the "Scanlists" tab. Just change the number in the right column on any of those tabbed pages. From the radio also, but I have never done that.
_______________________________________________________________________
From the EZScan Manual(PDF)(page 47):

"IF an object is mapped to an enabled Scan List, AND, that Scanlist is enabled, AND, that Scanlist is a member of an enabled Scan Set, THEN, that object will be scanned when the ▶/II/SEL key is pressed."
______________________________________________________________________

Comment: You have not used the term "Scan Set". "Scan Set" settings can be found on the "Advanced Features" tab page. Make sure that (for now) Scan Set #1 is "enabled" (solid black square) and the others are empty squares. I give this warning because I had my radio a couple of months before I realized that "Scan Lists" and "Scan Sets" are not the same things. Heck, the settings boxes are pretty much alike, and if you don't look closely you can wreak havoc with the "Scan Set" settings, lol.

Paragraph Two from my last response to your thread:

"I followed along on this while I was typing and I bet I found something relevant to your problem that I completely forgot about earlier. _________________________________________________________________________

My Comment: This second paragraph is regarding a completely different subject then the first paragraph in said response. Please let me know if you see MORE than ONE "Folder" at that step (between Continue and Copy Folders) in the "Copy Configuration to ScannerMemory/SD Card" process. If so I will post the steps to take using the radio to make a selection (done after copy from computer completes).

Happy New Year, Tracker! We are not communicating. Humor me and type more detailed responses. There is no reason to be in a rush. Try to use the same terminology used by the EZScan Software, and/or on the face of the radio, and/or on the LED screen of the radio. This way we can actually tell what you are doing. As examples:

1) Responding to brownlab's detailed (~300 words) instructions with

"I tried tried this in the morning before re synchin with my laptop, buy it didn't pick up miami... ...yesterday I programmed miami dade "coubty" fire rescue n that it did pick up................." and "I tried this under EZscan n Miami is Not under Systems........"

leaves me with doubts that his instructions were followed or even understood.

2) Responding to my own

"......... This second paragraph is regarding a completely different subject then the first paragraph in said response. Please let me know if you see MORE than ONE "Folder" at that step (between Continue and Copy Folders) in the "Copy Configuration to Scanner Memory/SD Card" process........"

with

"I did not get that prompt for more folders.......it just warned me that clicking continue would overife the info. on thr SD card...Btw, I just completed the previous mentioned regiment to no avail......"

leaves me with similar concerns.

One more time, from the top, lol:

EZScan software............Click on "Scanner/SD Card" tab (upper left)... ...MAKE SURE SCANNER IS TURNED OFF........Click on "Copy Configuration to Scanner Memory/SD Card"... ....."Overwrite Warning" popup select "Yes".....On my computer I now highlight EZSCANDG (H) (Your file system may be different).......Click on Continue......

STOP RIGHT THERE----- TOUCH NOTHING!!!!!

You should be looking at a popup box labeled "Select V Scanner Folders to copy"!! ARE YOU LOOKING AT A POPUP BOX LABELED "Select V Scanner Folders to copy"???? If so, you should see one OR MORE entries (lines of boxes and words) under FIVE COLUMN HEADINGS labeled "Copy" "Del" "VS#" "Folder" and "Description". DO YOU SEE THESE FIVE COLUMN HEADERS???? If so please describe, to the best of your ability EXACTLY WHAT YOU SEE UNDER THE FIVE HEADERS!!!! Then hit the "cancel" button at the lower right of this "Select V Scanner Folders to copy" popup screen.

That's enough for now, please respond to ONLY these very specific questions regarding ONLY this "Select V Scanner Folders to copy" popup screen with as much specificity as you can muster.

Thanks,
Rob
