I was having a QSO today on our local repeater and my friend told me a buddy of his heard that GRE has a new factory and is producing again. If this so I think this great news!!

That would be great news, but I'm thinking its just a rumor. I would think we would have seen something in the announcements on here by Lindsay or someone else if it was true. But it's still possible..

So your friend's friend heard a rumor that GRE is up again, but there is no post here...

That should make you go "hmmm..."

I agree Alex. This sounds like a rumor starter. The people in the know will give us a hint if indeed there is something going on.
Yes, a PSR-900 would be great for our hobby, Looks like Uniden isn't moving too fast. What seems odd to me is if indeed GRE is out of business, why wouldn't Uniden not purchase any patients if there are any?

I still think Homeland Security had a hand in GRE's demise and that they are the reason why Uniden isn't taking advantage of having the market to themselves. I'll keep my finger crossed and hope that GRE does come back from the dead and Uniden is taking the time needed to market a scanner that receives simulcast as well as commercial radios.

It must be because GRE (a Japanese company that contracted to have a scanner made in mainland China) was about to make a radio that would expose the ___________ conspiracy. (fill in the name of your favorite conspiracy, maybe that former professional wrestler and former governor Jesse Ventura is an alien.

Even though we would like to see GRE return, they have left the scanner market forever. When the company decided to abandon their plans for a new factory they were aware of declining sales, increasing use of encryption, and the possible liquidation of RadioShack some day. These three factors alone are enough strong evidence that GRE will not produce anymore scanners.

Can we please put this to rest once and for all? GRE does not have a new factory, GRE is not once again producing scanners.
Should anyone ever pick up GRE's I.P. then you will see an official announcement here and other reputable sites online and not through hearsay "from a buddy of a buddy" on a ham repeater.

But It Would Be Nice If GRE Did Make A Return To The Market.

Of course it would be nice to see them be able to produce scanners again. No one is debating that. What everyone is saying is that threads like this based on what a "friend of a friend of a friend" said on a ham repeater is hearsay and it only creates confusion.
Face it: GRE is done, caput, finished, dead like Tony Soprano.

Too bad. There is no doubt in my mind that the PSR-800 is the best consumer grad scanner ever made.
IT "hears" a whole lot better than any Uniden scanner I have ever had (although the 796D is close) and the only scanner where a GPS is useful is the HP-1. Sadly, it has horrible ears. I did the same trip from NY to PA with both radios. The HP heard almost nothing aside from NJSP, and even that did not come in all that great. All I had to do with the 800 is "set location" with a city in the general area and I got tons of reception.
Uniden should just pay for the license and manufacture the 800. It will achieve the same kind of legendary status as the PRO-2006.
