Maybe, but the PSR-100 was $100 with frequency coverage to 512 MHz and 200 channels. I suspect the 120 will be closer to $140.

for anyone interested in this radio. grove enterprises has preliminary spec's, and a photo. it sort of remind's me of a big band aid. no milair coverage. it is under the hand held scanner category. does not interest me at this point.

Including the FM Broadcast band usually means high-fidelity audio which can be tiring when doing normal scanning - a very bright high-end, and a low end that if you use headphones, enables one to hear low-frequency PL tones.

In this price range, you'll probably encounter a single bandpass filter that stretches from 88 - 138 mhz, which can lead to fm-broadcast desense when listening to vhf airband if you are close to a broadcaster.

I'd drop the fm broadcast capability frankly. This would allow better communications-quality audio, and your bandpass filter can start at 118 mhz.

Like some of the Unidens, it takes 3 AA cells, and if you like to charge externally, and keep your batteries in related packs, upgrades to chargers that will charge individual cells will be desired.

I'm pleased to see triple conversion is back for this price range! I have enough fm broadcast radios to last a lifetime, so I see no need for FM broadcast coverage and hope they concentrate on performance rather than hi-fi.

Guys, I put together the framework of a Wiki article about this scanner at:

PSR-120 - The RadioReference Wiki

As more information is learned about the PSR-120, please add it to the Wiki.

Thanks!

I wish these scanner makers would stop putting out the same crap over and over and over with a new face plate. They do it cause they know people will buy them just to sit there and look at.. why bother adding and coming up with new features.

FCC approved

I have been told this model has FCC approved.

I am trying to get more info.

FROM GRE.

This will be available soon, as we just wrapped up FCC, we are now starting production.

So will be awhile before shipping starts.

From reading the manual, it looks to be an interesting little radio. The only thing that concerns me is tha lack of user squelch control. You get the choice of either high squelch or low, that's it! That may not cut it in some areas depending on the RFI levels. Otherwise, it looks pretty good!

Why invest your money into a cheap scanner that won't take you anywhere down the road. Everything is going digital trunking and cities and counties are getting on-board unless you live in rural town America where maybe this might work.

Just invest into the GRE PSR 500-600-800 or the new 900 coming. Just spend the extra chips and you will be happy.

I don't know who your comment was geared towards but as for me, I have a 396XT for my digital needs and an arsenal of other handheld scanners for everything else. Why invest the money? Because I can! It really is just that simple! Different strokes for different folks!

Yes you are right you can. I can go jump off a building but the investment on my end would not be a good sensable buy.

My point was not to buy cheap scanners with cheap parts and old technology. The hardware is going to be cheap as well as the speaker because that's how they will keep their price low. Then when you are in a pinch and you have that scanner one day and you are trying to listen to something that is trunked or in a digital format then you are screwed. Keep your investment on the cutting edge. The re-sale on those cheap scanners are nothing which will end up in a scrap pyle in your backyard where your dog will knaw on it...............

Not exact copies. The 120 has the FM broadcast band and coverage above 512 MHz, yet no Mil-Air coverage. No batteries are included, and the AC adapter is extra. 3 "AA" batteries are needed. The radio can be cloned to another 120, but I see no evidence that it can be PC programmed in the FCC manual anyway. There are no alpha tags on the 120.
300 channels in 10 banks of 30.

Also, the 120 has autosquelch, high or low settings. No manual squelch.

Other than that I guess they are the same

Wirelessly posted (Clacking rocks together: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.4; en-us; DROID X2 Build/4.5.1A-DTN-150-30) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

Good thing some of the folks posting in this thread don't run Uniden or GRE.
This is clearly an entry level scanner for those who may want to listen to other services that don't require a decoder and software to program it.
IMHO, this is most likely an attempt to make casual scanning a bit more affordable and appealing to a wider audience.
