When the GRE PSR-500 is scanning through trunked systems, is the scan speed affected at all by the numbers of talk-groups that are selected?

For example, say the delay is turned off, but one system has only 10 talkgroups associated with it and the next system has 175 talkgroups associated with it. Does it take the same amount of time to check each system since it is not actually scanning through conventional frequencies, but is actually checking the control channel for selected talkgroups or will it take longer because it is checking for so many active talkgroups?

The time the radio spends on each system is controlled by the "Dwell" setting in the TSYS menu. Checking each received CC msg against 10 or 175 programmed TGRPs is irrelevant, unless you want to measure down to microseconds.

I have programmed one conventional 800 system with over 600 talkgroups and one P25 700 MHz system with over 700 talkgroups so far and rapidly growing and I have not had any percieved delay in scanning when monitoring either one of these systems.

Oh, trust me, this radio definitely takes a licking and keeps on ticking. :3

As the closest thing to an "ultimate stress test" for the PSR-500 (Christmas came early for me :D), I set up an 1800-talkgroup monster list with six separate control channels for the SAFE-T system.

I saw no appreciable difference (that I could tell, anyways) from this and the *actual* "sane" list I use in "real life"--about 1000 or so system objects, including about ten separate trunked radio systems (mostly Motorola and LTR, two 3600bps APCO-25 systems (Ft. Knox and SAFE-T) and one 9600bps APCO-25 system (the Louisville Metrosafe demo system), a mess of conventionals (including frequencies for KYSP conventional APCO-25 sites). And yes, it trunked fast enough for everything to be usable.

A little bird told me that the beta crew also did a similar "monster test" and also found there was no appreciable slowdown. So I just had to try it for myself :D
