Good question, I'm not sure. I did find out that I had ALL the sites in the system which most likely was the problem.

Ggraves, thank you for taking the time and sharing the video with us. Beltclip is definitely different. All ya'll out there with the 800 will have to let us know how sturdy the clip is. Again, thanks ggraves:)

I'm reading the manual now. I'm not a beginner with scanners but not advanced so if I state something wrong in my new videos let me know. I'm going to give a general overview in my next video and if people like it, I will make subsequent videos of different features based around what everyone wants. I won't hijack this thread so I'll let you guys know where the thread I'll be making is at if it goes that far.

The belt clip is the best offering I've seen from GRE for a handheld, it's well built and seems to be rugged.

Does anyone know if its possible to edit sites/systems and talkgroups from the radio itself or is the software pretty much a requirement after you add from the database?

Don't know if this will influence anyone's purchase or not but the GRE rep at the Orlando Hamcation told me that the Radio Shack version of the PSR-800 would NOT have the built-in audio recording feature.

I think I'm pretty much done with Radioshack as my 106 was horrible with simulcast and others say the GRE model wasn't so influenced by cell towers as RadioShack Models.

Conventional I can't as they are all too far away from me and most of what's in Omaha is still analog or city/state P25 Trunking.

I too would like to know how the PSR800 does in high RF areas around cell towers on 800MHz compaired to other GRE scanners.

I was at the shack today and asked em if they know when their 800 equivilent would be avilable, and the guy was clueless... I tried to ask about this recording feature issue as well, and (ya guessed it)... he didnt know anything....

That being said, he was atleast very knowlegable on the scanners he did currently have in stock, but I don't think he understood that I wasnt looking for an older model.. just info on the 800!

Just an observation here, but apparently some of you didn't know that the Pro-106 is the same model as the PSR-500, with only the speaker location and cosmetics being different. Also, the Pro-18 is not yet released (nor is it in the RadioShack system yet), so the salesperson wouldn't have any knowledge of the Pro-18 until it's released, unless they happen to read Radioreference forums. From the information shared on the pre-release thread, the 18 should be the same receiver, but not include some of the features found on the PSR-800 (as pointed out in the pre-release thread and in the Wiki).

The Pro-107 and PSR-700 are also the same basic radio, with a few feature set and cosmetic differences.

I knew the 106 is the 500 but someone said 106 has worse issues with cell phone towers than the GRE model.

I knew GRE makes RS equivilents to their models, and you would think that a salesman would have some idea of what brand new products are about to flood their stores.

I didnt expect em to be COMPLETLY clueless.

My GRE500 is just as "BAD" near cell towers (wiped out signal) as my buddie's RS106, my Uniden 396XT works great near cell towers so in regard to the PSR800 that is a very important question....

I found an interesting warning on the Grove web site today on the PSR-800 section of the web catalog.

"IMPORTANT! FYI If you update the Scanner or DSP firmware, the scanner power MUST be turned off as instructed and the interconnect cable must NOT be removed. Turning the power on or removing the cable during the update will corrupt the data and disable your scanner by locking the display and processor. If this happens, follow the instructions under “Updates,” then “Check for CPU Firmware Update.” Failure to follow these steps properly will require a return of the scanner to the factory for a reset.

Details for the technically inquisitive: Flash-updating the firmware of an eeprom chip must not be interrupted or its data stream will be corrupted and the chip can no longer function properly. Turning on the scanner requests information from the chip which interrupts the update, as does removing the cable. Reloading the firmware as instructed can restore the proper operation of the scanner."

Don, is this a true statement, that it would need to be returned to the factory?

Actually no they shouldn't... 1) Salesmen are the last in the chain to know about new products. 2) Scanners are NEVER going to "flood" a store.

I didnt expect em to be COMPLETLY clueless.

Go to Best Buy and ask them about the iPad 2. Completely clueless. That's just how the real world works.

Does anyone know if its possible to edit sites/systems and talkgroups from the radio itself or is the software pretty much a requirement after you add from the database?

You can change/update some of the attributes (record, etc.) of a given talkgroup/channel via the radio user interface, you can put then in scanlists, etc.... the software give you more capability...

As far as I know, you can't edit frequencies of systems, etc. via the user interface - that needs to be done by importing the latest database (assuming it's updated there) or via the software.

It really depends on what you want to do.

For heavy-duty editing, use the software.
