Grecom Psr 400

Just got me this scanner. Firstly I am very stupid when it comes to programming or messing with scanners. This is my first scanner I have got and have no clue what to do. Secondly I got it off a buddy of mine, so it has my local p.d and e.m.s in it, and a lot more surronding counties also, but I have the adaptor for it and I have it plugged in now. I do not have an antenna for it. I was wondering do I need an antenna for this scanner to hear it? And I use it out of my house, not out of the car also. I was also wondering I hooked it up and everything, and I turned it on my local p.d station, but I'm not hearing anything at all. I don't know what's wrong if I need an antenna or if I just need to press a button to fix it IDK. If anybody could help me out I would appreciate it and walk me through what I need to do, to get this scanner so I can hear it.

he told me it didn't need an antenna, so he must not know what he's talking about then. He got it off somebody else who had it, but I don't think he knew anything about it. He didn't even include an adaptor for it. I had to buy one off ebay, so he either sold it to me knowing it only needed an adaptor or knowing it needed an adaptor and antenna and just didn't tell me. I got it for a very good deal, so I'm not worried about buying the adaptor or antenna either.
But anyway so your saying once I get an antenna I will be able to hear my local and surronding P.D and E.M.S? I turned it on and put it on scan so it would scan through banks 0-9 , but no frequencies would come up for me. It just scans constantly. And also since I need an antenna can you give me a site and tell me what type of antenna I need to get for it so I don't get the wrong one? I wasn't wanting an outdoor antenna either just one that snaps on the back. Thank you very much for your help, I really appreciate it.

So I'm deciding between the All band telescoping whip replacement antenna (mot) or the all band telescoping right angle whip replacement antenna (for all scanner brands) by uniden bearcat...Can you tell me if the all band telescoping whip replacement antenna (mot) antenna will work for my grecom psr 400? The other antenna say's it will work with all scanner brands so Im assuming that will work with my grecom also right?

any back of set wide band antenna with a BNC connector will suffice

What I'm trying to say is does the whip replacemeant antenna (mot) have a BNC connector? I tryed looking it up, but can't find anything, and scannermaster.com doesn't have a description of it

look under antennas,and there is a category for back of set antennas.they are there.just have to look.

I know it has the BNC connector, but is it a wide band antenna that will fit my grecom psr 400? If so it's cheap , so I like it...And also I'm sorry If I'm coming off really stupid when It comes to antennas and scanner's , but I have no Idea what I'm talking about. This is my first scanner, and just really want to get the info and details right when I ask you guy's questions you know. And just want to make sure the antenna will work before I buy it, that's why I'm asking you all

The Whistler antenna is the same type that would come with a new radio from the factory. It will cover all the bands.

Thanks, you guy's. I will purchase the whistler antenna then for my scanner. I appreciate the help, and hopefully this get's my scanner working. If I have anymore questions that come up I will come here, cause this place is great for info on scanners and stuff like that. If I never would of found this place I would still be wondering why my scanner didn't work, and never of known I needed an anteanna also so thank you

First Off Merry Christmas to everyone here. Secondly I just got my antenna in the mail and it fit my grecom perfect. I have one question though. I am scanning banks 0-1 and picking up my local P.D, and fire, and E.M.S and all that, but when they go to talk the squelch cut's out. Not for long, for like a second or so. Wondering if that was normal, or if my squelch isn't set right, or I'm doing something else wrong here. I watch it and the squelch will be fine all 3 bars it has then it goes to 0 bars for like i said a second or so then the squelch comes back on with all bars again. Just wondering what I need to do or if this is normal or not.
Plus when I try to set the squelch to the very left at like 9 o clock it comes on this primary channel and just real staticky, No talking just Staticky. Don't know what that means just thought I would tell you guy's to see if you knew about that also.
On the other hand I am excited about the scanner working now. I just wanted to say to bigcam and hpy , Thanks for letting me know I needed a antenna to get this thing working cause I am totally excited about it. I appreciate all your guys' help when you give it to me. Thanks again and I hope to be hearing from you soon.

Not totally sure by the way you are describing it, but it sound like you might have a Priority set on something, possibly on one of the channels or a weather priority. Check to see if you have a Priority set on for something.

Well are you talking about the 9 o clock static or the squelch cutting in and out? But also I can say the priority is on and I keep it on, haven't tried it off yet, but maybe I'll check and see it

It's also wierd too cause I'm only getting two stations on my scanner. My local AEP and my local Fire. I'm not getting anything else so I don't know what to do really. You guy's have any suggestions

And on your post ed I believe your talking about the 9 o clock sqeulch, and yea I do have pri on that's why it does that
