I received the BCD996P2 yesterday and set it up via this site and FreeScan. While I'm getting used to the scanner, some features are familiar to the BCT15X.
However, I am not receiving the Greer Police Department. I'm picking up the fire department and others that I have programmed. I've even locked out all but Greer PD but still nothing.
I am listening to them via Broadcastify.com but nothing over my radio. I understand there is some delay when listening over the internet.
The only other thing is to manually program the frequencies and then doing an ID scan. (Shudders)

Any ideas?
Thanks

I'm monitoring the 800. But now it has popped up after I reset the unit, then reprogrammed it. I think I didn't include the correct transmission site.
Now I'm trying to get the priority scanning and figuring out what fire station is what. The last 40 years they identified by names now it's only by numbers.

you might have a problem with the simulcast site.

Greenville County Simulcast site is notoriously difficult to receive on a non-simulcast-optimized scanner like the 996. For your sake, I hope you're in a sweet spot that allows you to receive it.

You can try monitoring the Hogback site instead. It carries some Greenville County talkgroups some of the time, but not nearly as much traffic as the Greenville simulcast site. Greer PD might be among those that it usually does carry.

Yeah, I did that last night and it appeared. It is weird that the fire department is on Ceaser's Head while the PD is on Hogback. Thanks for the info!

I agree, it's strange and non-intuitive the way affiliations on the system typically work.

Also note, Greer FD channels are never carried on the Spartanburg site, as far as I know, they're prohibited from that site. But Greer PD is always affiliated with Spartanburg.

Something to keep in mind: we typically think about site affiliation as it relates to mobile and portable radios, ones that move around from location to location. In the case of Greer, that's typically not a very big area, so one would think that, most of the time, most mobile and portable radios affiliate to the same site (most likely Greenville Simulcast). But the other question is, what site are the stationary radios (mainly thinking about dispatch consoles) affiliated with? I don't know the technical details of how stationary radios tied into a system. I imagine that in some cases, consoles are tied to RF radios that affiliate with a site via RF. But I suspect that it's also common for them to be connected via "wireline", which today is probably IP over an ISP link. I assume consoles are programmed to affiliate with a specific site controller. Maybe Greer consoles are distributed to sites further away to distribute load/overhead across sites? Hence maybe why those talkgroups are heard reliably on those further away sites? If anyone knows those technical details about console tie-ins and affiliations (not specifically about Greer), I'd be interested to know more.
