Celebrate Aiken with free B.I.T Expo
- Aiken Standard article-
The entire community is invited to Celebrate Aiken and discover new bits. The yearlong Celebrate Aiken 175th anniversary celebration continues with the first event of the third quarter, a free B.I.T. Expo to be held on July 17 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the USC Aiken Convocation Center.
In honor of the third quarter theme, Business, Innovation and Technology, the third quarter Celebrate Aiken committee has planned an interactive expo combining fascinating business, innovation and technology from Aiken to highlight technology-based careers available in Aiken County. This is not a job fair, rather, this is an opportunity to experience little bits of Aiken often not highlighted, organizers said.
"We are inviting people to see a 'BIT' of Aiken County they have never seen before," said Carla Cloud, committee chair. "We thought it would be neat for people to go to the Convocation Center for a free event featuring interactive demonstrations and displays." The expo is designed to appeal to both adults and children and offers a fun free way to beat the summer heat while celebrating Aiken's rich history, present and future in the business, innovation and technology fields.
Activities will be oriented to engage the entire family and range from robotics demonstrations, orbital welding demos, magic shows and mobile bio labs to emergency technician demonstrations and more. Kids of all ages will be encouraged to use a special clearance level card to visit each space. The more spaces visited, the higher the security level clearance attained and small rewards for those who reach certain clearance levels will be available. Also throughout the day, children will be pitted against adults to test their knowledge in a game-show reminiscent of "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" Prizes will be awarded to winners. "Come, have lunch and make a whole day of it," Cloud said.
