LOL! I got a good laugh out of that. Looks like something I'd expect to see on a WWII aircraft carrier.

As far as CW is concerned you may as well learn Morse if you feel so inclined, these days it's just another mode but a good one tried and true. As far as the dreaded whackermobiles and porcupines are concerned there are far more dangerous nut cases out there. This is not a siren, of all the stupid things to put on a car and announce to the world "butthole inside" this is a WIND TURBINE.

Alternative energy-new market....

Congrats! I'm testing Saturday, wish me luck.

BTW, lies should be believable. A white pickup with with either no light or a simple yellow on top will get you around nicely. A well used hard hat on the dash is a nice added touch. Or just don't be a poser, that works well too. Congrats again.

This sounds like a favorite quote, to paraphrase: The best way to become invisible is to put on a day-glo vest, carry around a radio tuned to adult contemporary and if anybody asks you any questions just complain about the hourly rate.

I've found a reflective safety vest, a truck and an orange cone will get you ignored real easy.

Not quite MOT, no turbines until the Korean War 1950-53. As for the "alternative energy" bit maybe with the car locked down in a hurricane but while in motion all energy comes from gasoline. The joke's on the joker is it not? This one doesn't quite fit the definition of whacker but I'm sure you can think of others with "whack" in them.

I have no idea what any of this has to do with radio, nice thread hijack though. (;->)

I have a turbine on all my cars. I also replaced my headlights with ALLs, they add a certain wow factor that says, "hey this guy is important!" Since I did it everyone I pass at night gives me a big "you're number one" sign. [/threadjacker 5000]

I was issued my call sign today. KJ4JRG. I don't have a radio yet, so Echolink (or something similar I'll have to research other programs) will have to do for now. I want to thank everyones encouragement and hopefully talk with a few of you.

Congratulations. Update your signature with that new callsign. It will be tempting to get a handheld for your first radio but don't do it. Hold out for a mobile. Some of them are about the same price as a mobile and you'll enjoy it more.

Yea, I will hold out. Your not the first to suggest that. I downloaded Echolink, trying to do the ports forwarding thing on my router. I figure sometimes this weekend, I'll transmit my first CQ.

Well I tried to validate my call sign via echolink and got this

Validation - Choose Type
FCC Data Not Found

The callsign KJ4JRG cannot be validated for EchoLink because KJ4JRG does not currently appear as "active" in our copy of the FCC Amateur Service database.

If you have held this callsign for a while, please check the expiration date on the license.

If this is a new callsign, it is possible that the FCC data is up to date, but the EchoLink copy of the data is not yet synchronized with the official FCC data. Please check back again in 24 hours.

I quess there's nothing I can do except try validating later.

Just play pediatrician for a while, have a little patients. Echostink has port issues so prepare for them or skip it altogether, real hams use radio anyway. Yeah I know about the can of worms, why do you think I opened it? (;->)

Hey welcome to the club, I just knew you could do it! If you need a little elmering I'll be around, just don't ask me where to plug in the mic or I just may tell you.

Not to steal your thread but I just passed my tech today.

I would ask where I should plug the mic but I think maybe your suggestion would fry the thing!
