I'm not surprised you didn't receive a response. I'm a 32-year resident of Westfield and the overall city and county government leadership in Hamilton County has become more "elitist" over time, especially the past 10 years.

From the Indy Star article:

Mike Hubbs, 911 director for Hamilton County, said security and privacy are more important than providing openness to the public or media.

“We don’t want to tie the hands of law enforcement when officers are getting assaulted and attacked across the country,” said Hubbs, who headed Marion County’s 911 system for eight years. "There are certain things we don’t want you to know, certain things have to be covert.”

Hubbs is a schmuck. This is way too overreaching. Whomever hired Hubbs should all lose their positions in Hamilton County.

The reason they said for going encrypted was to comply with the July 1 state law. Here we are July 18 and still in the clear...guess that was just a convenient reason.

So if they're still not encrypted what is it that you are complaining about? Are you complaining just to complain?

SSN..wow, haven't heard one used on the radio in YEARS! Maybe the last 4 just to confirm a warrant, but never the whole SSN... Wonder if its because the SSN can't be ran for anything anymore???

All Hamilton County Law Enforcement (primary dispatch) is going encrypted in the first half of 2023.
Hello! My name is Jasmine, I am a journalist for the Arnolt Center for Investigative Journalism. I was wondering if there were any avid listeners of police scanners in Indiana that would like to do an email or phone interview with me on your thoughts about encrypted police radios. We are doing a story and we need some people who are willing to speak up on the subject whether they are for or against it!

They will be encrypted in the next week or so. My point was the initial reason for encryption (State Law July 1) must not be valid if they are still in the clear near the end of July.

Did you read the state law? It still applies, and will until it is repealed (which it won't be).

Folks, let it go.

The state law is in effect. It is not our job to enforce state law.

A decision was made by Hamilton County officials to encrypt their radio traffic for whatever reason. If you live in Hamilton County and have a concern about this decision, take it up with the county commissioners or county council. It does no good to debate the decision here.

Listening to openmhz archives they switched at 5am this morning.

They told all units to push their home button to switch to the encrypted channel.

New talk groups are showing up, too (29271, 29272, 29273, 29275).
At least fire is (still) in the clear...

Old TGs now car-car?
Tonight, I heard dispatch say on the old Nobblesville PD TG 29003 that the officer was "on Car-Car". They told her "we're now on encrypted."

New ENC TGs:
I logged some radio IDs incase you all had logged them before and can determine what these channels are used for.
Busiest are 29273 and 29275.

29169 - 2911919, 2911921 (barely used, maybe HQ or car-car) ~~ is this a typo TG 29269?
29270
- 2911421, 2911436, 2900996, 2911292
29271 - 2909997, 2911033
29272 - 2912262, 2910729, 2909999, 2910676, 2910747
29273 - 2909994. 2912357, 2911825, 2909998, 2910318, 2910325, 2912099
29275 - 2912433, 2909985, 29121256, 2911935, 2911919
29277 - 2912262
