Can we all try to NOT have this thread de-rail into a "dispute about encryption" thread?

Also as mentioned in the news article, Hamilton Fire is seriously considering a twitter like feed or website like Toronto Fire CAD, and also a dedicated media only channel.

It will also be interesting to see if the system actually goes live - this time... All I can say on that tho. ;)

Based on the original roll out plans I dought all users will switch by that point. I would image police would move over, then fire, then city as originally planned. We know that this will be finished by mid-2013 as that's when the current smartnet contract ends.

I really think at the end of the day, encryption is a very easily justified cost. Infact, in many cases, the cost is zero. If you are the one making decisions, it is very easy to request encryption when it doesn't cost a dime. Figure, basic encryption for an XTS5000 costs under $10 per radio. Granted, that isn't strong encryption but it is enough to keep scanners in the dark.


We all know they wont pick the cheap ADP option.. they all want OTAR and such..It is really easy to spend like a drunken sailor when it is not your own money.
