Are Fire and Rescue "in the clear", or is everything encrypted?

I can hear Fire/Ems as well as most of animal control.

In Matter of months fire will NOT be in clear, talked to one of the dispatchers that I know well. Stated once all fire personnel get new APX radios that when the switch will happen on fire side. Sad to see all this happening. Hopefully King William WILL NOT follow that lead, since King William is a "User" on the system that uses Hanover's System/Towers. Only time will tell on things like this...

Fire as well eh......did they total or just tac channels. Fire encryption has nothing to do with officer safety and everything to do with " a little boy with a new toy" mentality. Grew up in Mechanicsville and never thought they would lead the charge for total secrecy...uh I mean encryption. So much for Col. Hines and his "working with the public" lie.

Since all that’s going into factor, what’s your speculation on King William? Since they share Hanover towers ? And they have site 2 for south of king William county . But north end of county still has site one.

I would think that would be up to the Sheriff and Council on KW to make that decision.....but from what I am seeing......if they have it, they will use it.

I agree 100%, yesterday I overheard that the WHOLE system since it’s a “Richmond capital region” has to be fully encrypted by end of 2018. Sadly , it’s so sad to see that happen. Hoping king William will fix that site 2 to function at northern end of County instead of the south of king William. If that happens king William can function on the 769.5812mhz and basically go on their “own” system . I’ve email one of the supervisors to inform them of situation and aspect. Would HATE to see King William join the lead of what Hanover has done, and them copying would have me speculating and wondering the , just why .

My question is why does the Richmond Capital Region "have to be" fully encrypted by 2018. I doubt seriously it is a Federal mandate. Is some salesman touting that lie and getting rich, have the Feds thrown a bunch of Homeland Security grants or have all those departments become that paranoid?
