so I've been trying to listen to my scanners today I have both the sds100 and the bcd436hp and was wondering has the city of lubbock gone silent or had frequency changes...I don't hear anything on the lubbock police or the fire or barely hear anything on the sheriff.. I have everything programmed correctly including the frequencies that are in the database and just don't hear a thing

Hey everyone. I'm in Lubbock right now and there seems to be some severe issues going on with the trunking system that is only affecting certain users. Unfortunately, they are VERY important users. I've got DSDplus running right now and only the Airport Police and some other random offices are able to access the system.

Does anyone have knowledge on what error 24 signifies?

For anyone wondering, Lubbock is NOT an encrypted system, save for certain undercover/surveillance TGs (the stuff that probably should by E...there I said it). Lubbock is very open and all of the hobbyist (i.e. "good guy") listeners are very grateful for that!

Not good...I see a TON of affiliations but no traffic. This started early this morning and is still going on. Before everything went silent I heard a couple dispatch consoles for the Sherriff's office, but the sounded VERY poor. It was like the dispatcher was trying to yell through a waterfall.

I'm letting DSD run all night and I'll give updates when I can as they happen (I hope they do!).

It's very eerie isn't it? I love listening to the Lubbock system because there is always SO much to listen to. This is very concerning.

Error 24 is failsoft failure in harris system. All of the city traffic should be on mutual aid.
Oh. Thanks for the info! What is a failsoft failure?

You wouldn't happen to know the mutual aid frequencies or TGs would you? I don't see anything on the current simulcast system indicating the use of mutual aid TGs.

What is a failsoft failure?
It's when the trunking controller fails.
It's supposed to be set up so that when the controller fails all the trunked repeaters revert to single channel stand alone repeaters. Different talkgroups will appear on different repeaters. I don't know how that works with a phase II system because I have never observed it in action. It may not even be scannable. I don't know if it would still have time slots in failsoft mode. You need to program all the control and voice channels as non-trunked conventional frequencies and see what you hear.

Here we also have a Harris phase II system that was probably installed by the same vendor. When it crashes they use the 8CALL/8TAC repeaters that I posted above. I would bet Lubbock is the same way.

Are they analog or P25 in failsoft? I have never seen a system go into failsoft either.
The 8CALL/8TAC repeaters are supposed to be analog with 156.7 PL but I'm too far away to verify what Lubbock is doing.
I have never heard of failsoft using channels outside of the trunked system.

The P25 system came up late last night. It seems like everything is working correctly.

All of the 8CALL/8TAC channels are indeed analog with a PL of 156.7

The better question in this thread isn't that the city/county reverted to NIPSAC channels (that's part of what they are there for after all) but why did they need to revert to the NIPSAC channels. In other words, why does a city with a competent radio shop (YOMV) that has essentially been a GE/Harris customer for the better part of a century (may as well be since the dawn of time)...go into failsoft and their radios don't revert thus facilitating the need to meet up on NIPSAC channels? Was the revert not programmed into the radios?
