Hello Group,

I have a 996p2 scanner and I heard one of my local PD vhf channels spring to life this morning.

It is a digital transmission, but my scanner is not decoding it, and I have tried everything I could think of.

I am not sure what digital format is being used.

Is there any way to figure out what type of signal they are using ?

Is there a program I can use with my SDR to get it to tell me what type of signal it is ?

my old analog scanner opens the squelch and I here the tranmissions as motor board sounds,

but the 996p2 does not open the squelch, and it does not display anything on the screen that it is even getting this signal.

Is there something special I need to do to program a single vhf digital channel that is different from the way I programmed my p2 700 mhz simulcast system ?

I thought the scanner would just automatically figure out it was a digital transmission, but maybe not.

The directions are not at all clear in the manual for how to program a single digital, non trunk, freq

Thanks everyone.

The freq is 159.105 Quakertown PA

I do have recordings of baseband audio from the transmissions, but they are really big

If it will allow me, I will upload the smallest file I have

Thanks

It won't let me upload, so I uploaded to a storage site

This should be 16 bit 32k

https://we.tl/Wt9CU2PIJM

here is a download linl

I recorded baseband in SDRsharp

I tried opening this with cooledit, and windows media, and VLC and it would not open

I used audacity and that worked, but it does not sound right.

Hopefully you will be able to listen to this and maybe decode it ?

Let me know.
Thanks

Can DSD+ be used offline to decode ?

I have an older version of SDRsharp that works well for what I usually use it for,

I have XP, so I can't install the newer version

DSD+ won't work in this version 1.0.0.1484

Can DSD+ be used any other way, without SDRsharp to play back an audio file and have it decode it ?

I have never used DSD+ but in reading the SDR plugin site it looks like this software can work without SDRsharp, but I don't even know where to download it from

Also, my scanner has a DMR upgrade available.

Does anyone know how to program a DMR frequency into the 996p2 ?

I also have the handheld model of that , the BC325P2

There is an update for that as well, but they are pricey updates

I am wondering if it is worth the cost ?

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

Bill

Updating the scanner will enable you to receive and decode DMR signals much more conveniently than kludging SDR# and DSD. You will have to decide whether being able to monitor DMR with the same ease as P25 is worth the $60.

You have to buy the upgrade key before you can program a DMR frequency, and you cannot use Freescan--it has not been updated to support programming DMR channels. You'll have to use ProScan or some other software to program the scanner, or use the scanner keypad.
