Hi, I am not sure if this is the correct place for this but,
I am having trouble configuring my scanner to listen in on some channels in the TxWARN system: Texas Wide Area Radio Network (TxWARN) Motorola Trunking System, Metro Houston area, Texas - Scanner Frequencies

I am unsure exactly which (if not all) frequencies I need to put for my "site frequencies".
I put all the fequencies under "Texas Medical Centers" than I created channels for "2e5" and "2e7" (HEX) but when attempting to listen, it just keeps showing "Finding CtrlChan". I made sure the control channel is in the fequency list. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wanted to start listening to the following channels

11856 2e5 A Alief VFD 1 Alief Community VFD 1 Fire Dispatch
11888 2e7 A Alief VFD 2 Alief Community VFD 2 Fire-Tac
11920 2e9 A AliefFD Tac1 Alief Community VFD Tactical 1 Fire-Tac
11952 2eb A AliefFD Tac2 Alief Community VFD Tactical 2

and
11760 2df A UHMainPD1Pri University of Houston Main Campus - Police 1 Primary Law Dispatch
11792 2e1 A UHMainPD2Adm University of Houston Main Campus - Police 2 Administration Law Talk
11824 2e3 A UHMainPD3Evt University of Houston Main Campus - Police 3 Special Events

Thanks!

TxWARN is a networked radio system, meaning you can hear agencies not in your immediate area but by scanning a Site close to you. So program the closest tower site to your location and you should be ok. Myself personally I do not use Control Channel only on any system, So I program ALL the frequencies for the Specific site(s) I want to scan.

When you are looking at the TxWARN site, the Control channels are in Red & Blue font face, If the scanner cannot hear the Control Channel you won't be able to Monitor that site. Also, I rarely enter the HEX code, but rather the DEC code.

Keep in mind TxWARN is a Motorola Phase-II Digital Radio system so some scanners will not receive this system.

See that's where I got confused! I didn't realize I could use any tower close to me :) Now things are starting to work. Thanks!!!

Max,
The "TxWARN" link the OP included is for the older, analog, system, not the newer, P25/Phase II capable one.

Which is good, considering he is using a 346 analog scanner. ;)

To the OP:
Although you may be closer to one site than another, it is more important to consider what site is closest to the agency you are interested in monitoring. Remember a real radio using the TG you are interested in must be affiliated with the site you are monitoring for you to hear that traffic.

So will my Uniden BC346XT be able to use the new P25? I dont think it can, but just trying to make sure.
No, it won't.

Also, realizing I don't own any XT Uniden models, I am not sure I know what I am talking about here, but don't they allow you to put all the sites in a single system so that it will check all that it can hear (based on where you are)? If so, why would you not do so? As for the agencies you specifically mentioned in your OP, I would suspect they are not normally carried on the same site.

Which is also good because the agencies he asked about are not using the P25 system yet.

OP: Community FD rides on the Clodine tower and UHPD uses the Downtown/Criminal Justice Center site. Depending on where you are you may or may not be able to hear both of those sites at the same time. If you haven't picked it up yet I highly recommend using FreeScan to program your 346XT with.

You're correct about the XT series scanners, Lou. You can load all the sites of interest into the system, and it will check those it can hear. Instead of the display alternating the "System Name" with the "Group Name" (as on the 396T), for the XT scanners, you'll instead see the Site name (in place of the System), alternating with the group, which gives you a visual indicator of which location you're receiving.
