May just have to say the hell with it and get one of those two. Hate not being able to listen in on anything.. Wife really saw the need when we had a couple big brush fires makai of us. No danger, but she liked listening to the FD progress and where the fire was. Not being able to do that with the new system is a convincing argument for more radio(s).Honestly I would stay with a BCD436HP and a BCD996P2. This is going to be the best scanner's on the market overall for the value. I have had every scanner possibly you can buy and these radios will keep you happy for the price.
The BCD536HP is a pretty good radio too. The work horse that has never had any kinds of issues is the BCD996P2. Hands down.
The 436 can be powered with the USB cable, either plugged into a computer or with a charging block. If you have a spare iPhone charging block or similar, I found that works.
Hi I just ordered the bcd 436 yesterday really looking forward to receiving it. I have too admit I am so used to the older scanners that I am just hoping I am not to overwhelmed. Prior to placing the order I got the Easier to read Manual for it. Omg the learning curve for me is going to be interesting. Did it take you long to figure it all out.?
Anyone notice the fire talkgroups have changed? 6502 appears to now be county-wide dispatch.

If you paid for pre-programming, why should you have to mess with it?I would have no idea how to add programming to my new scanner. I'd have to find a scanner guy here on the Big Island to help me.
BCD325P2 is a nice size. Fits in my truck's cup holder. I have rechargeable batteries which helps because it goes through the (only 2) batteries in less than a day.
Got a list with the Hawaii public safety system loaded in, and now am in the "no voice" boat. I see the transmissions and control freq with a SDR, see signal strength indications on the 536, but no action. Just loading the RR database is evidently not good enough.
On further reading, it seems the radio should "lock on" to control channels. Not happening, tried with attenuator on and off. Once when fiddling things, got the channel ID of 6108 monentarily which is correct for Kona PD, but no sound and then it was off the races again with "ID scanning"
I am not as stupid as my wife believes, but this radio should have been CLOSE with RR database settings. Or, are scanners all over the country being fooled that the RR database download will set things right?
This radio will not stop on a damn thing. WX channels receive just fine, so not an antenna issue. Believe me, I understand that aspect.
Have you updated the firmware to at least 1.11.20?
