County neighboring Riverside County is Orange County. All Sheriff & PD's went encrypted there about 2 yrs ago shortly after the Sheriff was busted for trying to cover up his sons marijuana bust. Then that same sheriff is now in jail facing federal money laundering charges or something to that affect LOL. Makes ya go hmmm when they want full encryption.

ENCRYPTED scanners have been ILLEGAL since the passage of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986. Deputies aren't giving out information about encrypted channels; because nobody has equipment capable of hearing those conversations any way. Standard APCO 25 digital scanners are NOT classified as encryted radios either.

Anybody who watched those cop shops already know what CALIFORNIA code numbers 187, 211, 261 etc mean in English. Has it been that long since the demise of DRAGNET, ADAM-12 and SWAT? HOLLYWOOD used to pattern most of it's TV fare after LAPD; so most of the copese spoken in southern-California is not a secret. The Penal Code is on line if ytou wanna look up even more police jargon...

Just Enjoy it while it lasts, I would not be suprised in 10-20 years from now that public safety monitoring will be over in most areas

and correct me if i am wrong, wasn't there an unwritten rule about divulging what you hear on the radio? I listen Live, I understand Streams have a purpose, but to "Point Out" what people say is not very ethical or smart in my opinion.

I am anti encryption, but not for everything, I could see encryption of stuff like this, too many yahoo's out there thinking they have a right to listen, if there is a standoff with swat i do not need, or want to know how swat is deploying, i do not need to hear I-Calls.

There's nothing unwritten about it. Section 705 of the Communications Act of 1934 clearly prohibits divulging or publishing the contents of communications that you're not authorized to divulge. It's a very real law, with very real teeth.

I'm of the opinion that most streaming scanner feeds are safe, but posting the contents of i-calls could very well piss the wrong people off.

This is regarding my Riverside County Sheriff online scanner feed;

http://ca.scanamerica.us/index.php?county=Riverside

If you go to my scanner feed (the link on the top of the page) and go to the scanner archive for Riverside County Sheriff you will hear parts of that conversation. Go to the file; 7/29/2008 4:04pm - 4:19pm fast forward to 5:10
...

Posting any recording of this nature is asking for problems. It's ILLEGAL! Several years ago we had someone in Long Island who posted transcripts of MDT transmissions. He was arrested and was featured on the network news - and I'm not kidding. I'd remove those recordings immediately.

Good Point, and technically 802.11 is radio encryption, How About Blanket Public Safety Encryption, But i digress from the topic of this thread

Now on Topic:
The Scanning Hobby will be dead eventually, behavior like this only helps to speed the process up, now i know that there are certain individuals who really could care less about how their actions affect their peers, but this is common sense!

How different is radio encryption from other encryption such as data wireless 802.11?

So I just heard two deputys talking on an "I-Call" (idividual call), one guy was warning the other guy that all individual calls are being monitored via the internet as well as most talk-groups. Telling him to be careful what he says. He said a website in particular but I didnt catch it cause it kept scanning...he was saying deputys are giving out "codes" to these "people". Obviously this guy doesnt know what hes talking about, we dont need special codes. All this IS legal right? As far as I know, my scanner is the only one that particularly monitors the Lake Elsinore and Perris area of Riverside County.

If you go to my scanner feed (the link on the top of the page) and go to the scanner archive for Riverside County Sheriff you will hear parts of that conversation. Go to the file; 7/29/2008 4:04pm - 4:19pm fast forward to 5:10

So let me know your input on this. Kinda interesting...

I was listening to the conversation and he was saying somthing like (ok expecisally the motor I use that alot out there , so I was never 10-35 anyways) I think he was refering to motorola for the motor and he was not advised /10-35 .

Also how can I get somthing like this for my home town ?? I like this program set up you got here plus I think it's funny how I set here at home and here Dispatch ask the Deputy if his radio is secure and I can here them at home Lol !!! I would like to set up somthing like this at home got any idea on how I could do somthing like this here ???

Also I think it is funny how they all think they are hidden on there new magic radio's

True, I really didnt look at it that way.

And by the way, I am not trying to do anyone any favors. From some of the things I have heard on "I-Calls", they should be lucky this is the only thing I have pointed out.

I know what you mean. I have an area PD that is up everyday running u/c surveillance ops on a repeater channel in the clear. And all their jargon is easy to decipher if you listen enough. Another PD runs surveillance on seldom used TRS T.G I.D's in the clear. At least use some Nextel's or buy a few rolling code scramblers for gosh sakes. But, i'm glad it's clear cause it's about the only thing I listen to. I once heard 2 cops talking on a car-car channel that said no one could hear them because they had their Motorola radios Private Line on (CTCSS). LOL

same here but slightly differ...

I have a local pd in the next town over, they're a smaller town so after 5pm there's no one in city hall/ the pd so they have a radio phone patch for the telephone where if the office/city hall/police department/courthouse phone rings it goes through a phone patch line and into the radio to be answered.. Anything said on the phone can be heard on the radio and apparently unlike most cities, They're highly aware of it, I was listening one night on the scanner and the phone rang, the cop answered police department, the other guy said "This is Detective so and so from so and so place" I'm calling in regards to so and so about so and so, I can't remember the details, it's been awhile but the cop says "STOP!" I want to make you aware right now that this radio system is on a phone link patch, Anything you say will be transmitted over the radio and anyone with open ears including scanners in about a 45 mile radius around the city will be able to hear your conversation, Give me your private 21 and I'll give you a 21 there.. So I didn't hear crap, Made me soooooooooo mad, LOL, it did suprize me though that a small town of less than 2000 people knew about it though, That was highly unusual around these parts anyways, LOL well that's my 2 cents anyway...

In fact there is a warning about this in your scanner owner's manuals. Listen and then STFU is a good rule to follow...

Reading too much between the lines.

Motor = patrol vehicle.

I'm not sure if this would be the case more times than less, but, I can see how asking if the officer's radio is secure can mean "Is anyone else within hearing range of the radio?". Case could be like relaying that there are warrants for a DL lookup the officer had dispatch do for him.

Like I said, just brainstorming here. (I know there is a 10-code here in my home county for asking the same thing, ;) )
