well i had just figured out the trunked system on my pro 94 and was doing well and they politely throw out this new digital stuff...i dont quite understand everything that goes along with the digital system...i have tried searching it and i find information on it and everything that i read on it may as well be written in chinese...i know that my local agencies have went to the p25 system but i also know that some of it is also on the analog system...will the Uniden Bearcat BCD396XT cover everything that i am trying to pick up?

I suspect this is the system of interest:
Scanner Frequencies: Louisiana Wireless Information Network (LWIN) Trunking System, Statewide, Louisiana It looks like a standard P25 digital system. Yes, the 396XT will do everything you want. Once you get it, you will need to program the red and blue frequencies for the site(s) near you...probably 15-20 miles, but you should get advice from the folks on the LA discussion group. I see a 2006 note that they are going to EDACS Provoice, which can not be monitored, so you should definitely get an input on the status of this before you purchase any new scanner.
The 396 has a different "Bank' structure which will need some explanation. Simplest is to look at folders on your pc. The main folders are Systems. That would be (LWIN). Under each system are sub folders called groups or sites.
