I have a Raspberry Pi 4B up and running great. Both CubicSDR and GQRX perform great on this unit. I want to drive it headless and have all that working but cannot find any examples of how to hear the audio stream on the Mac. I have turned it on using the Network port setting in GQRX. And have tried to use nc examples given in gqrx documentation and also tried to use VLC. With nc if I use the commands in the doc it just sets there and I see no audio coming over. I have turned on the stream with the UDP button to the left in the audio interface. If I use VLC it says it can't open that device. I'm lost. I really want to use the RPi 4B+ by driving it from my large screen Mac. Can someone please point me to some examples or a tutorial that shows how to do it with sufficient detail.

Have you tried pulseaudio or snapcast?

Sorry, I can’t help you with a link to a tutorial or specific instructions. I have routed audio through the network using pulse. The first two items under “related software” (volume control and prefs) are a big help. Both are in the software packages available for installation on the pi. Watch out for stale/outdated links in your searches, there are lots out there.

A simpler but more kludgy way to do it would be to stream the pi audio using darkice and install the icecast2 sound server on the pi. Then you simply listen to the stream in your web browser on the Mac. Of course, you get the streaming delay.

Now that I have warned you about outdated links, here is one:

Ignore all the stuff about installing the software. Both darkice and icecast are available as packages in Buster. The rest of the instructions are pretty good.

DC31,

Thanks for the tips. I'll jump on it and see what I can do. GQRX is supposed to be feeding the audio on Port 7355 when you press a button on the audio page. I just can't find any evidence of it coming into the Mac. I generally get nothing. If I try a command with the IP address of the Raspberry Pi I get a cannot access error. I'm looking for away to receive this data that is supposed to be on port 7355.

Thanks again!
Dale

Why are you running a GUI program on a power-limited device only to run it headless? There are many ways that are much easier on the hardware...
