help I am new to this and I think I bought the wrong scanner I live in west virginia in Ritchie county, do I need a trunking scanner I bought a digital. can only receive ems and fire no police or state police. I even bought a outside antenna any advice would be helpful thank you

A BC125AT scanner is analog only, no digital capabilities.

Although analog frequencies for Ritchie County are listed here https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=3039#cid-5786, you'll also find digital talkgroups listed here https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=4076 as well. My guess is that the digital West Virginia SIRN system has superseded the analog. In ascending order of price, the Uniden BCD325P2, 436HP, or SDS100 are three handheld Uniden scanners capable of receiving this network. There are base versions of each as well. However, you did make a smart decision with the purchase of an outdoor antenna. Anyway, welcome to the hobby and RadioReference!

The Bearcat BC-125 AT is analog. If you can return to the vendor, do that. For other handheld scanners, you have the Bearcat BDC-325P2, BCD-436HP, and top of the line SDS-100. They are all digital Phase 1/2. The later 2 units use zip code programing. The base/Mobiles are BCD-996P2, BCD-536HP, and top of line SDS-200. Hope this helps you in making a better selection. Also, a outside antenna doesn't have anything to do with Digital or analog. It will however, bring in more distant departments but "can" cause RF or what we call Intermod. Hope this helps you.
