HELP!!! Programming BCD396XT

I purchased a Uniden® BCD396XT scanner for a birthday gift and I have done everything possible to program it. I have downloaded software/ I am no computer programmer and this to me was written in computer code.. that did not help... Printed several manuals ( 600 pages later) I am still lost. I have contacted several places in my area to see if they know of any one or any where that can program it... either no response or the answer was "no". I'm only looking for a few channels programmed. I contacted a company from the internet that I can send it to, but its another $200 and at this point I'm $600 into this and ready to take it back. I have a few days left to see if its worth keeping. Can anyone help me please..

don't give up, i will send step by step in a pm but you will need to post 4 times i think to get/give one.
these radios are a computer that gets radio signals and have to be thought of that way.
first you set up a system, thought of as a folder.
you have to tell it to get that folder, unlock the system.
it took me some time to adjust, but after that it is easy
and it is like the radio helps, you just have to know what to adjust and what to leave alone.
and you should mostly just put in some freqs the radio does the rest.
so go ahead and play around with it, it can all be wiped out later if it does not work.
and most here wipe out everything because it is outdated anyway.

here is a freescan file. you said you downloaded software, guess you have the cable accepted in freescan, this is a zipped file,, unzip first, then in Freescan, file open, note where you placed the unzipped file, and you should be ready to go.
