Aloha all.

I have a Uniden BCD396T scanner, and I'm trying to program it for the local Honolulu frequencies (most specifically the Police channels).

Can anyone PLEASE help me; and by that I mean step-by-step (as this scanner has more settings & options then I can count, let alone understand).

Mahalo!!!

396T programming

Hello,
I would check out ARC396 programming software by Butel. It makes programming your scanner a whole lot easier. If you want to make it even easier if you are a subscriber to RadioReference this way you can just download the freqs.
I have both and have been enjoying scanning even more ever since.
Best of luck.

I could be wrong here - but I think Honolulu PD is using ProVoice, which no scanner can pick up. Anyone? 73s Mike

[edit] Just to expand on the 396 itself and how to program it - a couple of suggestions...(anything in blue is a link)
a. If you don't understand trunking, you might want to consider reading our Trunking wiki article which has numerous links to articles that describe it in much simpler terms. Read the basics first, then move on to the various types in which you have an interest

b. Again from our Wiki, we have an extensive article on the BCD396T ; start by reading the article by UPMan entitled 'Scanner Programming: Man-Machine Interface'. Then, when you have digested this, move onto the 'Easier to read BCD396 manual' . Both of these links are in the 'Related Pages' section.

c. Finally, check out the 396's Yahoo group and possibly the Radio Monitoring Hawaii Yahoo group. Don't ignore this forum either. Once you get ARC396, you can either download data directly from our databases, or perhaps someone has a Honolulu file they would share. Either way will get you going.

d. Almost forgot - don't forget to check out Dave AH7E's website, which is listed at the bottom of the Yahoo group.

You are going to have to buy that Jaguar 700P in the for sale forum to listen to the Honolulu EDACS system. HPD uses Provoice on most of their talkgroups.
