• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I recently purchased a radio shack pro-97. They programed it with scancat-lite for my county in florida which is volusia. I am a total rookie at scanning. My problem is all of our county agencys work on the trunked edacs shared freq. I am getting p.d. and f.d. 35 miles away plus public works which keeps the scanner SO busy that I can't follow my local P.D., F.D. and sheriff. Some of these agencys show an id such as daytona p.d. but most of them just display a number on the bottom. example---ED: 01-052. Can any one explain to me how I can somehow block some of these other agencys from scanning? Again, they all share the same trunked freq. I went through the owners manual 15 times and cant figure it out. thank you in advance for any help.

Billy,

You need to program JUST the trunk ID's you want to hear, and ALSO set the bank to CLOSED mode, so that instead of searching for all ID's, it will only SCAN the ones you have entered.

A lot of folks find the info at http://myweb.cableone.net/marksscanners/97/97.html easier to use than the manual, and I agree.

If you were using Win97 (highly recommended) I'd offer to share one of my files with you, as this is one of the trunked systems I regularly monitor.

If you have specific questions about the Volusia system, I'd recommend you post them in the FL forum here, or send me a PM directly, for answers.

Pro-97

1. Make sure the bank is in CLOSED mode. Put the scanner in MANUAL mode and select one of the frequencies in the EDACS bank - then press FUNC 5 to toggle the bank between OPEN & CLOSED modes.

2. If you NEVER want to hear the IDs that have been programmed, just delete them. To do that, go to MANUAL mode and select any frequency in the bank. Press FUNC TRUNK and you'll be able to access the IDs. Use the UP and DOWN arrows to find the IDs you do not want. Press FUNC CLear to erase the ID.

3. If you just want to "lock out" an ID there are several ways you can do it. With the scanner in SCAN mode, WHILE the channel is talking, press L/OUT to lock out that ID. Or you can manually lock out the channel (without waiting for someone to talk on it) by pressing MANUAL, selecting any frequency in the bank, press FUNC TRUNK to access the IDs. Use the UP and DOWN arrows to find the ID and press L/OUT to toggle the ID on/off. You can also toggle the "sub bank" on and off with FUNC 1. That may affect channels you do not want affected, depending on how they were programmed.

Good luck.
