The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have just picked up a 5700-k and I am having issues with connecting to the radio to modify the programing it came with from my dealer. When connecting it to KPG-D1N using the KPG-46z Cable no matter what computer I try or what Prolific serial driver I use I am getting the error "check all connections and COM port Settings". Checking the Prolific chip version it is a PL-2303 TA which should work with out issue on windows 10. I only have the one radio so I can't test the cable with a different one but I suspect that the cable my be bunk and I have a new cable on order and hopefully it has the FTDI chipset as promised.

That all said what is curious is I cam getting the same error with the Bluetooth connection. When changing over to the Bluetooth SPP in settings it finds my radio fine and It does connect to the radio via Bluetooth for a quick moment and then it will disconnect resulting in a "check all connections and COM port Settings" error. Like I said I have tried many windows 10/11 computers and many serial-usb drivers for the cable. I found an older thread here about the Bluetooth data check box and the other Bluetooth options in optional features, but all to no aval. I would take it back to the dealer but they are a very long way away from where I am at :| what else might I be missing to get this connected/programed with Bluetooth?

Edit: I forgot to mention that my radio firmware is up-to-date 4.5.1 - 421C and the KPG-D1N is also up to date at version 4.51
Thanks in advance!

Kpg46xm would be an oem cable, the 46U is the old USB cable.
This sounds like a driver issue to me.
The other way is to take a db9 to db25 adapter or cable, and a USB to db9, plug it into the rear db25 and try to read it that way. I have done this with the older radios nx800 and 8180's when the mic jack is not working.

I would for you sanity, get the 46XM cable for faster reading/writing.

You are getting the Bluetooth error because the radio does not have the KWD-5003BT License active. The Bluetooth license should be available from your dealer for around $40(if they follow Kenwood pricing guide). My suggestion would be to find the KPG-46X OEM cable. The OEM cable is much faster reading/writing than an off brand.

I have bluetooth licenses in stock if you want to go that route. (still should get you an OEM cable for FIRMWARE UPLOADING)
KPG-D1 does the pairing to the radio to read/write. NOT THE PC!
The BT that comes with the radio is for pairing PTT/Ear pieces and BT Low Energy device such as a bullet hit detector

Thanks for the reply! I chatted with the dealer and we found out that they didn't load the KWD-5003BT License when they programmed the radio. It was a miss communication as I thought that they had :) Thanks for that I was working on the assumption that it was loaded and should have worked :)

Ok fantastic I would be into grabbing a license if that is easy! Quick newb question though I assume that I need a working 46xm cable to load the KWD-5003BT license onto the radio to then be able to communicate via Bluetooth as apposed to entering an actual key that you can type into it?

I've had awful times with USB to serial in windows 10. I think i have one that works now. Personally I would buy a KPG-46 U or X. Serial programming that radio is very slow.

I'm using the KPG-46U on NX-5700's and it's pretty slow, but do-able if you need to. If you are buying a new cable, absolutely go with the KPG-46XM, especially if you are programming a lot of radios. It'll quickly pay for itself.

you will need A cable connected to the radio to push the license. HEADS UP, if you do not have your LMC account registration, you will
need a JKEFA key before you push anything to the radio Radio license wise!

AND NOT A MAC EITHER!!!!!! NO, just don't even try. Pure windows PC only when doing this.
Trust me.

once you do that, then you can load any license features to your radio.

PS I have a few 5 seat keys left, they are free also.

Cheers!

@kd4efm Sorry for the delay in response, My cable took forever to get here :) I don't have a jkefa key for the and my dealer is insisting that I bring the radio to them to load license features onto it which would normally not be a big deal but I am over 8 hours away :( is there any way to register/pay to get my own key? (is this what you mean by seat key?) I am looking to get a few Licenses loaded (Bluetooth, SD card, Front Panel Programing) so if you have these in stock I would happily get them from you.

Hello

I’ve seen a few of your posts regarding programming software for the NX-5x00 series radios. I have a NX-5700 and I’d like to purchase a license with the wideband option. Unfortunately my local dealers have told me the software isn’t available for sale to non-dealers. I don’t have a LMC account registration either.
Are you able to assist?
Thanks!

I need some help, please.

I'm in Canada and there aren't any dealers that'll sell me a KPG-D1NK license key. A couple will sell me a key for front panel programming for $430.00, plus tax, and I'd have to get the radio to them.

After some calling around I finally found a dealer in the states that'll sell me a key. I was told I'd need both of these:
KPG-D1NK License Key $155.00
ZKIT-WLICD1 W-License / D-Software $255.00
When I asked about P25 conventional I was told that's an additional $575.00 for KWD-5100CV.

Are these prices accurate?

Can anyone direct me to a dealer?

Thank you.

If you go with the ZKIT it will replace the D1NK.

The ZKIT will allow you to enter wideband and D1NK will lock the appropriate frequencies to narrow. No need to run both, if you get the ZKIT you just have to make sure to select wide/narrow.

Some dealers sell at "List" some don't. Now for FPP $430 plus tax is high, list is usually around $300, however the rest of you mentioned items are at list price.

Which frequencies do you need wideband on?

If it's for ham radio use, everything below 150.1MHz will allow wide band. Everything above that will force narrow.
The UHF radios will force narrow band no matter which frequency you use.

Thank you.

Thanks for the info. I’ll go with the ZKIT. Are you able to recommend a dealer that might be a bit flexible on pricing?

I’m going to use the radio for ham and for some commercial (resource roads-logging). At some point I’d like to get a uhf deck as well so I figure I might as well buy the correct license from the start.

Hey, thanks for offering to help! I tried to DM you and I'm not able to (probably user error). Is that a premium feature?

KPG-D1NK is not for the Canadian market. up here it's just KPG-D1, and unfortunately, it's super difficult to get a license for, I have not found a dealer who's been able to provide it to end users without official blessing from Kenwood Canada. I have not tried hitting my Canadian radios with the US software or vice versa so I can not say if you'll run into any issues. I don't think you will but I can not confirm. Vernon Communications is a very HAM-friendly Kenwood dealer in BC. Give them a shout if you have some questions or need something.
