Hello,

I'm and IT specialist for a small local security guard company here in Sacramento. I really know nothing about scanners, but need to setup 2 of them for our guards to use while at a clients location. I purchased a Uniden BC246XTC and BC346XTC scanner for this purpose, but cannot seem to set them up correctly. They need to be able to scan Police, CHP, Sheriff and Fire frequencies. I do know someone that has a BC246XTC with most of the frequencies that we need, but when i enter them, I don't seem to get the same chatter he does. when i manually copied the stations from one to another, i did receive about 5 out of range errors. His does have a different antenna, but i'm not sure that has anything to do with it. I have also used all the frequencies that i found on this site, but get no chatter from those at all... I'm pretty sure i'm just not entering in everything correctly though. I have started reading the manual, but seem to get more confused than anything.
If anyone can help to steer me in the right direction, maybe let me know if there is someone in the area that i can bring the devices to, or help me figure this out, i would really appreciate it.

You're really going to need an updated digital trunk tracking scanner. All of the agencies are moving towards P25 in the near future, and I don't think those units will be of any help.

Also, location is important. If you're inside a building that is not near one of the SRRCS towers, you're not going to get any decent reception.

Thanks for the response. I contacted a company that deals in the scanners and will be ordering a few BCD325P2's. They will program them for an extra 100.
