I come to Miramar Beach every year on vacation and monitor the Sheriff's south dispatch frequency (460.200) and the South Walton Fire District (154.250). These are the only frequencies I see in the RR database for South Walton.

I hear the SO dispatch tell deputies to "come up on 800." Is this something like Nextel, or is it an 800 MHz radio system?

Do the SO vehicles on the beach also use 460.200?

Does anyone have the frequency EMS uses to communicate with Sacred Heart? I never hear anything when EMS leaves an accident scene and is en route to the hospital.

If you could pass on any other good frequencies in the area, it would be most appreciated. If you check this month's issue of Monitoring Times, there's an article on military monitoring along the Emerald Coast chocked full of frequencies.

Here are a couple for the campground we visit (Camping on the Gulf):
151.655-Operations (DCS 664)
151.895-Maintenance (DCS 664)

Thanks for any help!

Let me see if I can help you out. Your frequencies are correct for Sheriff's south dispatch frequency (460.200). When you hear them say 800, they are referring to Nextel. As far as South and North Sheriff Districts. The county is broken in half. De Funiak Springs and below are covered by South units to include the beach which is known as South Walton (San Destin, Santa Rosa Beach, Grayton, Seagrove, Seaside, Watercolor).

As far as EMS is concerned, they don't use a separate EMS channel for dispatches like the other counties. There dispatched and operated by Fire.

EMS to Hospitals is a little different. I very seldom hear them on their assigned EMS Communication Plan State frequencies. I know the north end units use the state EMS channel Med-8 all the time. Walton County North take 90% of there patients to North Okaloosa Medical Center and use 463.17500 (167.9). Over the last 6 months I have only heard EMS talk to Sacred Heart Hospital (South Walton) on 463.0125 (167.9).

Walton County is pretty rural and most of the action is in the south end along Highway 98 and the beaches. As far as other frequencies go, what is posted in the RR database is the most action you’ll find in the area.

If you want to hear more, you have Okaloosa County and Bay County all right there. You should also be able to pull Mil Air since you’re near Eglin AFB. The database is up to date for those counties.

Hope this helps.

I have an update for Walton County. Today I discovered that North Walton County has an EMS/Med channel that is used for EMS dispatch for the North half of the county. The same frequency is also used to communicate with Sacred Heart Hospital and HealthMark Regional Medical Center. When EMS is dispatched, the initial call & tones are simultaneously transmitted on both North Fire Dispatch and the EMS Med Channel. After that, EMS is heard on the EMS Channel only. Their call signs are MEDIC 1-5 and 12. You can listen to it on 462.9875 (203.5). I will submitt the update to the database later.
