I have just switched one of my feed to a stereo feed. This is the first time Ive had stereo and am having trouble getting rid of the white noise and high pitched hum when the feed is quiet. I have tried a ground loop isolator, adjusting volumes on the equipment and the input to no avail. If I lower the input volume to where the noise is gone, the audio is too soft to hear even with the radios on full volume.. I did not have this problem on the mono feed using the same sound card and radios. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

This is the feed:

Sounds fine to me, maybe even a little less white noise then my feed and I have had no complaints.

Edit: Okay when there is actual traffic I do hear some hum and it does sound a bit over driven.

I would check all your input levels and make sure you don't have any floating grounds.

Run a wire (braid works best) from the computer case to the ground on both scanners.

The antenna jack shield connection is a good place to grab ground on the scanners.

I had this same problem. I'll tell you what I did.

First I use a ground loop isolator, since you already have that you are good there.

Second I use a 13.8VDC power supply from radio shack (not the power supply that came with the scanner).

13.8VDC 3-Amp Power Supply : Power Supplies | RadioShack.com

That power supply there will probably eliminate 95% of all background noise when the scanner is silent. Keep in mind that the humming is almost always electrical in nature.

lastly I purchased a noise gate and compressor.

If you want to see my setup you can view a photo album here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.383087521737275.82884.143630129016350&type=3

Let me put it this way though (a little bragging about to occur) ... the sound coming from my stream both while scanning and locked onto a transmission is typically better than what the police/fire/ems hear over their radios. If you used all the tools I do you would also have the same high quality.

If you have any questions just ask.

I agree with the above that your audio is set too high. Turning it down will make your feed sound much better. Try that and we can give it another listen.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I changed sound cards and turned down the line in volume and raised the scanner volume by running it thru an amplifier first. I know its up high, but the White Plains side, get interference from Newark NJ when WP is keyed and Newark is also talking, so To hear the audio It must be high. Thanks again.
