Henderson County Upgrade Status

Here is the tower for the backup dispatch center. This will be the primary dispatch location while they upgrade the central dispatch center located at the Police Dept. I am aproximity 2 blocks from this dispatch location.

Ok so what is the CC and other info for this supposed system? Surely being so close you should get a signal.

I have not heard anything. I have my 668 searching the 700 mhz band and have not heard anything yet. If you all have a better idea of how to search for the cc please let me know.

Henderson Co Sherriff and the City all still seem to be on their old VHF systems.

Yea I have had signal stalker running everyday searching the public service 700 mhz and not heard a thing yet. Been told they still don't have all the radios installed in the vehicles yet.

Simulcast monitoring

For those who lack experience monitoring a simulcast system, it's usually more difficult than just buying a new scanner capable of Phase II decoding. Depending on where you live, you may get excellent decoding or terrible decoding. Since all towers will be broadcasting on the same frequency, the signal will reach your scanner antenna at slightly different times. Unfortunately, Uniden, GRE, and Whistler scanner lack the ability to do the error correction necessary to successfully decode the voice channels. Depending on where you live, you may be able to point it toward a specific tower, but even that may not work. Also, I don't know how this new system will work, but most simulcast systems use radio affiliation, so only towers that have an affiliated radio associated with it will broadcast the conversation. If that's the case with Henderson then it's likely only the tower in the city limits will be broadcasting city conversations, in which a Phase II scanner may work fine with the stock antenna.

For those that are looking to buy a new Phase II scanner, you should seriously consider using a program called "OP-25", which runs under Ubuntu 14.04. The software and Ubuntu is free so the only thing you would need are:
1. Computer (Intel I5 or AMD A-8)
2. software defined radio stick (https://www.amazon.com/NooElec-NESD...2-spons&keywords=software+defined+radio&psc=1)
3. an adapter to convert from your current antenna connector to an SMA connector

5. external computer speakers.
If you already have a computer you're not using a lot, you can use it to monitor a digital trunked system for less than $30. If you don't have a spare computer, if you read earlier threads in the forum message you will find instructions for installing the Ubuntu and OP-25 on a bootable USB flash drive so your computer can be a scanner when it isn't being used for anything else (or you can install Ubuntu on the same drive as Windows and boot up to whichever OS you want to use).

Where I live now (I grew up in Henderson), we have a six-site simulcast system and I have no path to point a yagi antenna at only one tower. I use OP-25 and an omni-directional antenna and I get perfect voice decodes and reception while my GRE scanners are worthless trying to monitor this system. OP-25 used to very difficult to install and run, but several individuals have written easy step-by-step instructions. You now no longer need to know Linux to make this work.
