So I thought I would let those interested in setting up an inexpensive portable setup for receiving those distant scanner signals.
Buy the following items,

,Antennacraft® Heavy-Duty 3-Foot Tripod Mount - Radioshack
I have this mounted on the ground secured with bricks.
Buy Mr longarm painters pole.
Super Tab-Lok® Extension Poles -
Make sure to get the super tab lock one also check your local Home Depot this is where I bought mine
Purchase the antenna of your choice I use the following 800 MHz yagi
824-960, 13dBi, Terrawave Yagi Base Antenna
You can turn this by hand or use the cheap RS rotor found here.
Outdoor Antenna Rotator : Antenna Rotators | RadioShack.com
This is the setup I use. Its portable easily dismantled quickly for bad weather and all the parts are readily available nationwide.
Don't forget the cable I use 100 ft of Davis Bury flex. Some rotor cable from rat shack, and if you use the yagi I mentioned you will need an N connector to so239 connector.
That's it if you have questions let me know.
