I just ordered the bc125at and I live in queens new York. I want to listen to the local emergency services around the city would the stock antenna be able to do that or would I have to buy a better antenna and if so which antenna would you gentlemen prefer?

You should be able to listen to most of NYPD and FDNY with your stock antenna from Queens.

Yes and no depending where you are, I also live in Queens now but I have trouble receiving SI PD and parts of lower Brooklyn with a stock antenna. My outdoor antenna pulls everything from All over the city and outer-skirts like North Jersey, Southern CT, Westchester, Rockland, LI etc.

You might also get better results if you use a UHF T-band antenna since all PD, FD and EMS are on the same band.

As long as the antenna has the right connector. And if it doesn't, odds are that there is an adapter that you can get for just a few dollars.

You can buy a Motorola UHF whip antenna and buy an bnc to sma adapter and hook that badboy right up. It might not look asecthically pleasing but it definitely works better then the stock antenna.
