rumor has it the radio system will be partially upgraded (portable radio related) sunday from 8AM-?
portable radios will not work during this time and later in the day HCFR and Plant City will temporarily be running off the mutual aid channels. not sure about HCSO or other agencies. the upgrade should only affect the east side system.
also, I saw one of the new portable radios in service the other day, so they are starting to come out.

By any chance do you know or your sources know what the control channel will be? When I scan the P25 system it shows the control channel 769.2812 it's been this frequency for a few months. Any model number you can give on the new radio you saw?

I posted the link to the new radios on page 8.
as far as the control channel, I doubt I will ever know that kind of detailed info.

They did this early this morning. HCFR Tac-1, SO D2/D4 Main, PCPD and PCFR were instructed to use Mutual Aid Tacs during an upgrade. I assumed those were the 8Tac90 - 8Tac94 freqs but I did not hear any traffic on those.

Also, has anyone heard HCSO mention "Tac 1 Delta"? Hearing dispatch asking units to switch to that from time to time instead of Info, Tac A or Tac D. Nothing on ID search, I'm assuming it's Provoice.

What you heard was Phase 2 which was scheduled this morning from 0400-?.
We used 8Tac92 last time. is it possible you heard no traffic because there were no calls then for the affected units?

Possibly, they were switched over for 30 minutes or less.

not sure what you mean. the mutual aid channel is a temporary use channel while upgrades are in progress.

When Ryan (TampaBayNews) He thinks it maybe ''Pro voice'' since him or myself have heard anything on the P25 system.

No, I was referring to possible new Provice talkgroups the current EDACS system. Which is not the end of the world in any case because Provoice can be monitored with DSD.

I haven't seen a control channel come up on the P25 system in many weeks.

I have been looking at both the 346XT and 396XT. Given all the talk of P25 for Hillsborough should I even consider an analog scanner for our area? I live in the Lowry Park area and work in the Telecomm Park area near I-75 and Fletcher. I know at work I wouldn't hear anything Temple Terrace since they are all encrypted now.

If it was me, I wouldn't. Very possible P25 is right around the corner.

Ryan, the county doesn't have the power cranked up on the P25 cc. You pretty much have to be in eastern Hillsborough to receive. It's been active all this time.

The only other concern I have is the possibility of encryption. My amateur radio equipment can listen to the majority of analog services that those scanners can hear. Has there been any talk as to whether the county or city services will go that direction?. $420 is a lot to drop on one of the 396XT's if they do decide to go there.

yep, you sure don't want an analog only scanner with all these digital systems popping up. and even then these systems may be tough to monitor even if they aren't encrypted, like that lakeland p25 that unidens can't monitor. and then the "big e" concern. i'm looking at a 396t with your name on it, at least its digital and can monitor a lot of p25 --- so far, that is.....

I agree. Since Lakeland went P25 encrypted make me wonder if HCSO is going to do the same when they switch over to the digital system. A lot of unknowns at this point of time.
