Hello:
I am new to this forum. I bought a Home Patrol and so far I think it's great. But I am having a problem that I believe is related to my lack of knowledge. I put in my zip code and I have several hundred frequencies listed for it. The radio scans them well but I have about 15 that I would like to develop a favorite list that I want the scanner to scan and I don't know how to do it. The frequencies I have are part of the ones that are listed for my zip code but I also have a few like school busses that are not on that list but are active in my town. How do I create the favorite list with the frequencies I know I want the scanner to scan?
Thank so much for any help.

Hi Poppy

1) hit menu
2) hit manage favorite lists
3) hit creat new list
4) name it
5) hit accept
6) hit listen
7) tap the top pane to illuminate (turn it yellow) and 'lock' the SYSTEM window
8) hit the gray bar on the right of the SYSTEM window
9) hit prev or next as required to get on the system the freq is located on that you want to put in your Favorite list you just created
10) Hit the DEPARTMENT pane (next one down) to lock it
11) do 8 & 9 above for the DEPARMENT pane
12) hit the bottom CHANNEL pane to lock it
13) do 8 & 9 above to the CHANNEL pane until you get to the Channel or Talk group you want to add to your newly created Favorite list and when you get to it hit FAVE on the top of the bar.
14) Dialog box will comw up that gives you three options, hit far RIGHT one that says 'OTHER LIST"
15) Hit the list you just created and it is saved there
!6) Reoeat as required.
17) When done saving hit menu
18) hit MANAGE FAVORITE LISTS
19) hit the list you just made
20) hit USE THIS LIST
21) dialog box comes up THIS WILL LEAVE THE XXX LIST AND USE THE YYYY LIST FOR ALL CHANNEL SELECTIONS hit YES
22) hit LISTEN if prompted

Oh, yeah. Once you select your new list and hit LISTEN, if you don't show any SYTEMS/DEPARTMENT/CHANNELS, you may have to hit MENU, then SELECT SERVICE TYPES and then hit the service types to cover the the channel types you saved. They will be easy to figure out because they eill be the ONLY labels in WHITE. Just tap them so they turn from BLACK back ground to ORANGE back ground. Hit ACCEPT (VERY IMPORTANT) then LISTEN..

If you're really, really quick with your eye/hand coordination and concentrate on the scanner only, you can try to just touch the gray bar on the CHANNEL pane when the freq you want is displayed, but I get distracted too easily by other things (OHhhhh, SHINY!!!!!!)

Happy jabbing!
Regards, Ron

Ron:
Thank you very much for a detailed procedure. I will try it.
Can you advise with respect to the second part of my question which is if I want to add a frequency to my fave list which is not - repeat - not a police, fire or medical service can I add it to my fave list? Specifically, I would like to add a frequency to my fave list which is for our local school busses here in town. That frequency is not listed in Radio reference.

Uhhhhhhhh, No

Hi Poppy!

And there in lies the major drawback of the HOMEPATROL. If it ain't in the RR database Uniden uses, you 'SUPPOSEDLY' can not scan it with HP. To correct this problem, you need to up load the frequency and data about the freq to the Uniden HOMEPATROL forum and they pass it along to the RR folks and RR adds it to the database and Uniden then gets it from RR and gives it back to you in your next hook up with the HOMEPATROL database hand shake up date between your HOMEPATROl/Computer/Uniden meet and greet. session.
Or you pre purchase the BuTel ARCPATOL software and download the BETA version and see if you can make it work for that frequency.
I pre ordered the software yesterday and have not played with it yet so I can't be of any help on saying if it works or not, but don't see any reason why it wouldn't since there a lot of happy BuTel customers using his software on lots of different rigs,

BTW, did you check the HOMEPATROL using the NATIONAL database setting for your location with the TRANSPORTATION, BUSINESS and MULTI DISPATCH services chosen to see if the Bus service isn't hidden somewhere in there?

Hello Smoke 1:
Thanks for the input. Yes, I was afraid that was the case. The HPI is really a good scanner. It has very good reception - even much farther than the range selected. It has many good features. Not being able to input a frequency not list in RR is a downside. But in all fairness a small one if all one wants to do is listen. If one wants to input tons of stuff HP1 is not for them. I will try your suggestion about the national database for my location.
