Folks..a few questions about the recording function.

1. Is the record a VOX activated type function (records only when transmission is active)

2. Can you record from a single talkgroup that has been paused?

3. How is the audio quality of the recordings?

Thanks!!

Tom

Yes - works like a vox, will record a held channel, quality just like the output - digital, forget the format

Will also record while scanning channels. Recordings are labelled with channel information. When you go back to listen to the recordings, you can pick which files to play and 'thread' conversations from a single channel.

It rocks!

And unlike a setup with discrete pieces (e.g. scanner, recorder, cables), you don't have to worry about loose connections, recording levels, data connection, etc.

I used to bring a recording setup with me on vacation to record the Disneyland system. I was a BC-780XLT, Thinkpad, TrunkStar and a bunch of cables. I remember missing some recording sessions, until I got really good at connecting everything up and setting levels.

It puts each transmission in it's own individual wav file, but the file contains the data from HP1 over what system, subsystem, and channel was recorded, and when playing back on the HP1 you don't know it's not live.

When you copy the files out of the HP1, each contains the system, subsystem and channel identification as the artist, genre, etc. so in a Windows subdirectory, it shows what channel each one was. Even better in an app that displays and sorts these meta tags.

Everything is VOX. No recording unless receiving. And the whole thing is built in so you can just hit the record button if something starts going on. It has a user-settable 30-240 second buffer that's always recording, so when you hit record, it starts with that. The buffer is just so you can do a quick replay of what you just heard on the scanner without doing a recording.

Recording is one of the best features of the HP1.

Guys,

Well I picked up a HP-1 and WOW the recording function is incredible. I was amazed to find (as reported on this thread) that the system-channel info is also recorded. Superior to the R20 record function and any PC system I have used.

I love this thing :)

Hi,
Sorry, I only got to see this post just now.
Audio is recorded only when a transmission is active. When you engage the Record function, it will record all transmissions until you tell it to stop, or the memory card gets near-full (in my experience, until 512mb is left free).
Audio quality is about as perfect as possible. What you hear on the radio is what will be recorded.

Check the "memory card" thread in the Uniden forum for some more of my observations, including some neat ways to sort & manipulate the audio.

Why?

Just copy out the TGIDs you want into another favorites list. Record from that list.

That doesn't work for what I want to do. Right now, recording is an all or nothing affair. I still want to scan a number of channels/TGID's but don't want to record *all* of them, only certain ones (like MedFlight, STATE used by MSP Airwing, etc). Your solution wouldn't work.

My PSR-800 has per channel/TGID recording, it allows for great flexibility.
