Hi All,

in the middle of making a copper Jpole antenna. I have the antenna itself made up and was going to attach the coax cable to the antenna with crimp on ring terminals and then solder. My question is how to terminate the coax. I see the center conductor goes to one of the pipes, the question is the shield portion that goes to the other. The coax has a foil section and then an actual braided wirte around it. Does the foil and braid section get attached to the antenna or just the braided portion. Thx

In theory, the foil and braid are electrically linked. The best think to do would be to properly put an appropriate connector on the end of your coax and to mount the corresponding connector to antenna (you did not indicate you had done that). Directly attaching the shield or braid to the copper is likely to be an exercise in failure.
