I see by your Amateur call sign you live in the Mauricie area. Not much to listen to out there.
Mauricie County, Quebec (QC) Trunked Systems Only two P25 listed. Hydro Quebec and RENIR
Mauricie County, Quebec (QC) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference the conventional listed here.
Hello mciupa !
When you say “Not much to listen out there”… it all depends on what the original poster want to listen to 😁
Yes he said “trunking” but maybe his interest would widen if he knew a bit more about what is available outside trunking!
in general, in Quebec prov., ambulances and road maintenance (MTQ now MTMD) are on the (trunked) P25 network and fully encrypted. Sûreté du Quebec is currently in its final phase of migrating to the Renir / encrypted, so no luck with these.
But even with these emergency services out of the match, there’s still “other stuff” to listen to. Are they “interesting” or not, only each of us can answer as it is so personal 🫤
Some frequently overlooked “province wide” frequencies that could prove interesting :
- Sécurité Civile du Quebec (Renir P25 *non*-encrypted)
- Marine VHF band
- SOPFEU (forest fires)
- Hydro-Quebec
- aviation band
- FRS/GMRS 22 channels
- amateur radio (CanWarn frequencies are particularly
interesting to monitor when bad weather is forecasted)
And outside RadioReference, there’s also a bunch of other frequencies that can be obtained (keyword “Mauricie”) thru Mckie website : parks frequencies for fishing / hunting, forestry industries, private industries, etc. :
Use this online tool to search for frequencies, locations, or licensees. Infomation comes from Industry Canada's database of frequency allocations.
tafl.mckie.ca
Similar search thru Jonathan Morgan’s tool (the following is an example with Trois-Rivières as the center point with a radius of 100km for the VHF band only) :
Of course most of these would be manual entries to be done, but Uniden Sentinel software is not that complicated to use.
Note that Sécurité Civile, Marine, SOPFEU, aviation, FRS/GMRS, and Hydro-Q freqs/TG are *already* in the Sentinel software database, so, it’s just a matter of activating them for listening use.
‘Hope this helps a bit more !
