Hot Springs Village Police Department will gain a digital radio system to allow communication with area communities.
Funds to replace 50-year-old communications equipment were approved by the HSV Property Owners’ Association Board of Directors at the regular April meeting last Wednesday.
The board also approved infrastructure funding for streets, water mains, water treatment and the golf department.
The new communication system will meet or exceed specifications of the statewide Next Generation 911 plan. The state Department of Public Safety oversees the Arkansas Wireless Information Network trunking system, or AWIN.
Among the benefits:
• Allows mobile reporting and communications.
• Allows communication with the public safety equipment of communities outside the Village.
• Eliminates approximately $18,200 in maintenance costs for the old equipment.
• Replaces need for approximately $100,200 in upgrades to the old system.
“This equipment will allow us to deliver highly professional emergency response services to all Hot Springs Village residents,” says Police Chief Kristi Bennett.
The new communication system will be purchased utilizing two payments of $215,072 each, one on May 1, 2023, and the second on May 1, 2024, after installation is complete. The payments will save the POA about $137,000 in interest.
