• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

How do I clear an error on my G5 Home Screen

Is there a way to reset my G5 home screen back to standard style. I had programmed some conventional channels and some of that information appears on my home screen and I want to clear it. I have tried the following:
1. deleted all conventional information and reprogrammed, no joy.
2. cleared all user data from my G5 with that menu option on the G5, then reprogrammed, no joy.
What should I try next?
I have the DMR option on my G5.
If I factory reset my G5 with that option in the menu, will I loose the DMR option?
Is this a known bug that they have to fix?
Thanks to all in advance for any suggestions.
I am on V0.4.0.41

Since you didn't share what the information on your home screen is it is very difficult for us to answer your question. To give you an accurate answer you need to either describe or share a screenshot of the screen so we can see what this mystery information is.

I am trying to attach an image for you to see, however I keep getting the message the file to too large to attach.
Any thoughts on how to shrink it?

The First line says RISCON
The 2nd line says Cranston Fire
The 3rd line says RFSS/Site:1/15
I want to get rid of the 2nd line that says Cranston Fire

The second line is the knob position name you assigned to it. This is done in E7 "Channel Knob control alias"

First Line is Zone, Second Knob Position, The only way to remove it is to give the knob a different name (maybe a . or _) but you can NOT remove it.

I've never not named one I like to know what knob position I'm in. I don't know if up can actually leave it blank or why you would even want to unless you only have one position programmed.

Thank you very much. It is my error and I apologize. I deleted all conventional information and reprogrammed. I am in the trunking talk group and I thought I was still in conventional. My bad. Thanks again. Cranston Fire has both conventional and trunking.

You're more than welcome. Glad I could finally pay it forward a little bit. Wish I could say I never got confused on the G5s... @RaleighGuy has seen some of my confusion!!

Too much programming ,trying to get things exactly the way I want. My RISCON trunking was perfect and I wanted to set up a conventional system in a new zone.
Happy Holidays to all!

Same to you I'm still working on getting mine just the way I want it. I figure if I live long enough I'll eventually get it.

I have the G4 for about 4 years and G5 for over a year. There is always something to add or modify with new systems coming online and others adding encrypted talkgroups that need to be deleted.

It's even more intense for me with traveling around in the work truck.

I find myself checking every time my wife and I go out of the area making sure what's there to be monitored and putting at least "something" for that area and route to and from in my G5. I consider the plug constantly evolving.

Hello FF,
What I have done is knob 1 Riscon. Then use the zone 1,2,3,4. Keep knob 1 zone one the favorite then when you switch knob positions you won't have to switch the zone 1 setting.

But how does this remove the knob name from the home screen, which is what he was looking to do?
