• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

How Do I or anyone establish contact without keying up the repeater

I tried doing a Google search for the LEARN SYSTEM on several occasions, but there doesn't seem to be a website for the Law Enforcement Associated Radio Network. I kind of wish LEARN would provide information for membership, either on RR or the MyGMRS.com. I listen to those guys Rag Chew and certainly nothing you would hear on Amateur Radio, except for unnecessary 10 codes. I mean I listen to those members talk about Amateur Radio, but I have not yet to hear any of those Volunteer for Public Service of any kind. Of course, Mr. Kaufholz claims he's retired LEO, which I really wonder if Mr. Kaufholz was discharged from his job, because something doesn't exactly seem right when I think about Mr. Kaufholz. The First Time that butted heads with him, I should have demanded that he give me his contact information, so I give him a call at later time if I had any questions. I wouldn't bug him, but I would have had time think of questions and maybe change my mind about Joining.

First, why are you using all bold? It makes it really hard to read and online it, like all caps, is like yelling at us.

That said, with all the doubts you have about the group and it's leadership, why are you trying to reach out to them? They aren't trying to recruit you and you have nothing but doubts on how they talk on the radio and about your background. Posting it publicly like you are here would certainly be reason for them not wanting you to join, I would think. But hey that's just my opinion.

And, by chance are you the same one who has been complaining about this group on MyGMRS website since 2022? If this is a real problem you are better off filing a complaint with the FCC, not online forums.

The best thing you can do is grab that knob on the front of your radio and twist it.

Switch to another channel. Turn the volume down. Turn it off. Go heavy on the squelch so you don't hear them.

I get it, you don't like these guys. You've been making it clear for quite a while now. Why have you taken it upon yourself to be the GMRS law enforcer?

Let it go, dude.

One thing I've learned since being on the radio in one form or another for over 50 years is if you don't like where you're at go somewhere else. Spin that knob and move on. You're not gonna get people or groups to change, just move along and find someplace else to talk.

Yep, you have a point there. I didn't realize that Bold print was the same as yelling. For that, I will do better my posts or comments, even replies. I sure don't want to sound I'm yelling or offend anyone.

their game, their rules, just move on.
if you want to hear amatuer radio verbage, tune into amatuer radio...
I realize it's their game and their rules. I just wish they would post contact information for folks who want to join or request permission to use the repeater, which most likely, permission will be denied.

could be a word of mouth thing.
i have a relative that is a landlord for poor folks.
his rule is that they have to know one of his friends or another renter to be able to rent.
because he does not charge security or even last month rent.
an i am just guessing on the repeater thing.

Why not put up your own GMRS repeater and have fun. You can make your own rules and deny Mr. Kaufholz permission to use your repeater.

Yep, you're absolutely right! As matter of fact, I could use the same repeater pair and same tone. He can't say squat if, but I would definitely use a different input tone, so he doesn't have a fit. Right not, putting up a repeater is what I shouldn't be focusing on, at least not now. I know that I could put up a small portable repeater that would give good coverage, but my family aren't interested in using radios.

Using the same input tone would cause willful and harmful interference, you don't want to do that. But you have every right to put up your own repeater on a different tone. I have a garage full of repeaters, duplexers and antennas ready to go and if you lived closer I would loan you one just to watch the fun.

I stuck this together a few days ago just to keep the parts in one spot and save space, a 100w continuous duty (turned down to 50 watts of course) repeater and duplexer in transport case tuned and running on GMRS. That and a 6.6dBd gain DB-408 or 12dBd gain DB-413 antenna with Heliax are available to go on air at any moment to counter GMRS bullies. Or many other repeater/antenna combinations to customize your radio damage. There would be no need to ask permission to key this one up if it were running in your garage.

Whoa!

Ok...can you make my friend one, housed in one of those silver pedestals like a landscaping irrigation controller or a street light control box?

...and a small nitrogen "cooler".
and....and....and.

I do have a tenancy to babble on about non-sense, but I sure do know that I must play by the rules and let the chips fall where they fall. Especially in the wonderful world of 2-way radio communication.
Of course, I wouldn't dare use the same PL tones for Transmitting or Receiving. After all, the GENERAL MOBILE RADIO SERVICE only has 8 Repeater Pair.
As far as, what I said about finding contact information without stumbling onto any system, one should know whether open or closed, and whether or not it's club or organization that open for membership.

Please forgive me for Rambling on about non-sense. I just have funny feeling about particular person, which I shouldn't say anything if I have anything good to say.

Be well Be safe

I have that about a lot of people, I avoid contact with them and you know what? Life goes on just fine without them!
Yep, you're right! I guess when I think about it, I must be the same type of person that always thinks their right even though they're wrong.
I had an aunt who was that type of person, but strangely I didn't understand until now that she has gone to that big supermarket in the great beyond. I know their not giving out S&H tamps, but who knows. LOL

Why post info on it. They dont want other users. I dont post info on my repeaters as they are for ME and my friends. As said you want a repeater spend the cash and then you can set your rules.

WTH is your problem? Are you trying to call me Moron? If so, you must be one yourself. Ok, I have to admit that my posts or thoughts about LEARN, or any Repeater Group does sound off the wall, which I guess that I alto apologize for.

You're right, if organization owns a repeater or a cluster of repeaters, they have every right to restrict access and keep club and repeater information confidential.

For me, having a Physical Disability hasn't been easy, especially having it from birth. I guess I'm kind of jealous, because I listen to those individuals talk about their careers that I could never have, even if I have a college degree. Oh, I do have a part-time, that would like it to turn into a full- time, so I could get off of SSDI and more opportunities.

It's embarrassing to rely on SSDI and knowing that with the right career and proper training, I could have been more successful.

Right Now, I feel as if I should apologize for having Cerebral Palsy, but maybe that's crazy.
