• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value.     To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I obviously don't know what i am doing, because the P25 conventional with NAC I put in just comes in as raw static when receiving digital traffic.

On D2, add to the conventional frequency list.

On D3, create an item with Protocol Type "P25 Conventional".

On D4, create talkgroups of interest (populating the P25C TGID column). If you don't know, of don't care about, the TGIDs, create a wildcard item with P25C TGID of 65535 (decimal).

On D5, create a knob position with Receiving Mode of "Monitor Mode", select the conventional frequency and protocol type you created above. Enter the NAC if you know it, or 7FE if you don't. Select your talkgroups at the bottom.

I think that should be it....

So programming all of these new CHP frequencies in would work same way? Can I set them to scan on one knob position? I'm confused, do I just ignore TX? (Some of these NACs I just made up for examples)

TX freq is what you want. RX would be the input to the repeater.

You'll have to program a separate knob position for each channel, then another knob position to scan across them.

Go back to D3 and edit the Protocol type - click on "No Setting", and it'll change to a drop-down menu, where you can select "P25 Conventional". Change the Protocol Alias to something like "P25C".

Ugh, got it...these things are so unintuative...I can't wait to bang my head against U3 PPS when my radio arrives from Taiwan...

Hi N6ML-
New user here and I could not figure out how to program a P25 conventional system into my G5. I followed your directions and they worked perfectly. I am now able to monitor the Cranston PD on my G5. Thank you so much for your detailed explanation. I am learning more and more every day about the G5. Thanks again!
