I have an app that I can listen to RR feeds. My question is how do I listen
to my scanner using Scannercast without the RR feed. In other words how do
I put http:\\192.168.0.100:5700 into my phone? Is there a media player built in,
do I need to install one? I've googled and can't really get a handle on this yet.
What I want to do is to listen to my scanner within wifi distance and not
have to use a portable scanner with antenna limitations.

Scannercast is only half of the process.

You also need to run your own stream server like Icecast or Shoutcast.

Then you can listen to your stream using one of many streaming media players available from the Android market.

Edit: I just reread you post and see you did not want to necessarily acces you stream from the internet but just from your local WIFi...

Fix, I think!

I just type http:\\192.168.0.102:5700 into the browser and if the port is active it will
ask me what app to use to open it with. I will verify this monday and post what I find out.

I did not say I wanted to broadcast it the internet. Sorry I get tired of people not reading and understanding
what people put it in their threads.

I type in http://192.168.0.102:XXXX into the Samsung Stratsphere phone after I have set up Scannercast
with XXXX in the port entry and started Scannercast. I also have enabled port XXXX in my router.

After the phone browser connects to ...102:XXXX it asks what app I want to use. It first gave me
2 choices, Browser and Audio player. When Audio player is selected it starts and a minute or so later
the audio comes thru. When Browser is selected it starts downloading a mp3 file. I don't know how or
when you can save the file or listen to it.

I then installed WinAmp to see if I could get BCD996T Alpha tags.

Now when I start ...102:XXXX I get WinAmp as a choice also. I have not gotten it to work yet.

With Audio player on my phone I have an option of using Bluetooth to listen, I don't have 1 yet but
will buy 1 and see if I can get it to work. Anyone know the range between phone and BT device?

Mil
PS if this is old news, sorry I am just getting into the internet phone world and am trying to learn.

I did not know Scannercast was also a stream server. So I am guessing you just need an Android streaming audio player?

The Android market is full of them. I have asked my listeners on my Facebook page what the Android owners are using and will get back to you.

BTW: Bluetooth has a range of up to 100 meters (if you believe the marketing). I have a bluetooth headset that works great throughout my home from my computer.

Buy a name brand bluetooth USB transmitter and make sure it comes with an A2DP driver for your operating system. Don't buy one of the cheap ones on E-bay because they will say that they are supported natively in Windows (no driver needed) and they are, but Windows does not have BT audio support (A2DP) built in so they are useless for streaming audio. Unless you want to shell out another $50 for a third party BT audio driver like Blue Solei.

Anyone know the range between phone and BT device?

I have a Motorola Hx550. It has a2dp and goes about 300 feet. I listen to the scanner radio app on my droid all the time and it works very good.

Next is to stream my scanner over the web and bypass the app all together..

how to, Android (update)

I can send my BCD996T audio and tag info to my android Samsung Straosphere phone.

1. Verify Scannercast can talk to scanner. (com port and speed are right)(2 cables are connected)
2. Configure Scannercast.
The only place you enter data is on the Config screen.
Stream Name _______(short because it takes up space in Winamp display)
Port ______ I used 5700 because someone in a Google search I read used it. (Security ????)
Verify the Sound settings are right.
Start Scannercast
3. If you only want audio just type in your URL in your phone browser and select the player you want.
Audio Player takes about a minute to buffer (preloaded)
Winamp takes about 2 minutes to buffer (had to down load app)
4. If you want audio and tag info
start Winamp
pust some buttons(??) to get to SHOUTcast and select it
select Manually Enter Station
type in your URL___________ http://192.168.0.103:5700 in my case (AGAIN I ONLY WANT TO LISTEN WITHIN REACH OF MY WIFI CONNECTION, NOT THE INTERNET)

Thanks for the replys, this will end this thread for me.

I thought I had finished, but....

Dave3825 you wanted to skip all app's and just broadcast your stream to the internet, right?
Scannercast will do that I think. I did a whatismyip.com and got my ip assigned by Road Runner.
It was XX.XX.XXX.11.
I verifyed that port 5700 (put in Scannercast already) was assigned to 192.168.0.103 (computer
running Scannercast) as port forwarding in my router.
I turned off wifi on my phone so I was connected by 3G.
I typed in http://XX.XX.XXX.11:5700 into WinAmp and it connected.
I know this ip can change, but I don't know when. Anybody know of a good no ip provider (free
if possible)?
If someone can verify this using your equipment because I am not 100% sure this works the
way I think it does.

I use DynDNS it's not free anymore ($30 a year) but they do provide temporary free DNS redirection if you just want to try it out.

If you are on cable, at least Comcast I know it does not change very often. I have had the same IP address for years.

I hope that I am not a broken record here, but....

It does not matter if you plan on listening to your own private feed inside your network or outside. You still need to have an audio cast server software installed besides the scannercast such as icecast.

Icecast & Scannercast should be able to be installed & operate on the same PC.

Basic function... scanner feed goes into PC scancast picks it up and sends it to icecast & some software listens to icecast.

Back when I had this set up the url was http://someIP:port/feedfile.m3u

Maybe some help more help than I can give:
http://www.k1pgv.com/SCConfig.html
or maybe easier:
http://www.proscan.org/

See now that's what I thought but millam went on to say he could connect to Scannercast on port 5700

I sent this email to the programmer of Scannercast:

"Winamp on my PC and Winamp on my Strasophere work different it seems.
It was the WinAmp mobile part. Opening WinAmp, then SHOUTcast then the URL
that threw me. That part I don't understand because I am not sending anything
to a SHOUTcast server am I? Maybe that part is built into WinAmp or Winamp mobile."

This was his reply:

"That’s part of what ScannerCast is doing: The full edition of ScannerCast acts as a SHOUTcast compatible server. You connect to this from your brower (or WinAmp)… ScannerCast does the rest!"

Plain and Simple: ScannerCast is an audio and tag server.

Yea, I guess, I downloaded it from ScannerCast web site. Peter's web site stated that you did not
need to use RR, that ScannereCast would sent it to the internet itself.

ScannerCast Download
