I want to avoid contact with other rail workers, due to this virus, so don't want to go into the signal box to pick up an official radio, I know the frequency so can listen OK, and under normal circumstances if I needed to transmit I would use the railways radios, but not normal circumstances, and it would be added safety if I could transmit to the repeater rather than hope my mobile phone is within range, it is my intention to oil and grease points which I can do without being with anyone else, but would be better if I have some warning when there is a train on the track.

So is there a way to find the tone used, I would only use if mobile fails, but nice second string should phone fail.

If you have the permissions to use the system for day to day operations, why not just ask the authority for the information and explain it the same way you did to us?

If your working in a safety sensitive job you need a radio capable to transmit back to a dispatcher or yard master

i thought that rail stuff was CSQ (no tone) reception for safety reasons.
that way no one is locked out.
