Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

How to only listen to a Motorola Capacity Plus system with an XPR6550?

So I recently ordered an XPR6550 to add to my Moto collection. And I found out we have a new Capacity Plus system in town, and I was wondering how I can use the XPR to listen to this system. I don't have experience with Capacity Plus and don't know what I'm doing. Since I want to follow the law, I don't want to transmit at all into this system. What can I do?

Capacity Plus system, I'm trying to listen.

You would need to figure out the color code and time slots in order to program the radio, you also need to get the programming software from Motorola and programming cable.

-First you want to add THESE from the site frequency table into the Channel Pool as a Cap + Voice channel. After that, add the channels into a Cap + Voice List, order matters, so pay attention how you add them
-Then add your talkgroups to Cap + contacts
-Since you can't "scan" Cap +, your "scan list" is the RX group list. If you only want to listen to 1 tg, add that 1 tg to the group list. If you want to listen to 10 tgs, add all 10 tgs to the group list
-Make your zone and channels, and assign everything. Make sure to check the RX Only box in the channel.

Usually I will make one "scan" channel that has everything in the group list that I want to listen to. Then multiple channels with the 1 tg assigned that I want to park on and listen to.

Also, make sure your radio ID is below 65535 otherwise you will just get an "unprogrammed" error

Sweet thanks for the help and just for reinsurance this wont transmit at all right. Unlike a SmartZone system when you turn on the radio it will transmit to tell the system you're online? This may sound dumb but I dont know like anything about Cap +

Just make sure you check RX only and you'll be fine. Cap + doesn't have traditional talkgroup affiliation like P25 does. The radio gets assigned a voice channel when a TX request is made.
