Go to the FL the police dispatch frequency is in and Select System. Select the town/city. that channel is listed in. Select Department. Edit Channel. Select Channel. Set Priority to On.

Now back out of the menu all the way and again enter Menu. Choose Priority Scan. Then Set Priority. You have 3 choices… Off, Priority DND and Priority Scan.

Priority DND will not jump to the priority scan channel right away if the scanner is busy listening to something else but will when the scanner is quiet. Priority Scan will jump to the priority channel almost immediately, depending upon the Set Interval you have selected (in seconds. You will notice the scanner dropping out of any other busy channel it happens to be listening to while it checks the priority channel to see if it’s busy and if it is, will remain on that priority channel until transmission is finished. Back out of the menu all the way.

The priority function works differently when there are trunked systems included in the FL. I believe it won’t look for a conventional channel while it’s listening to trunked systems but I’ll leave that to others to clarify for you.

This is great information, layed out well for me. Thank you. The police dispatch channel I want is a city within a larger country trunked system, it sounds like that might change something. FL stands for ?

FL = Favorites List. I was thinking it was a conventional channel you were referring to. But you are looking to set a priority on a Talk Group (TG). I haven’t set a TG as a priority channel. And as I’m only familiar with conventional priority settings, I will leave it to others.

Trunking system scanning is a whole different creature than conventional Priority. It is also set differently.

When editing the Favorites List, in the System section, look at the right pane. You will see an Options tab. At the bottom there is Priority ID Scan. Set that to On.

Next, go to the Departments and mark those channels (talkgroups) that you want to be Priority. Then, write the changed programming to the scanner.

Here is the predicament, which the Uniden Representative has indicated a desire to pursue changing: Trunked System Priority is not true priority scanning. It will NOT interrupt an on-going non-priority transmission to check for activity on a priority talkgroup. Conventional priority does that pre-emption but not trunking.

Hopefully Joe Bearcat can help get this improved. I suspect most scanner users would be elated if he could.
