To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello. I recently purchased a Motorola HT-1250 radio and I was wondering how to program MDC-1200 on it? (I purchased a programming cable with it.)

When my buddy programmed the MDC1200 on my MT1000 (UHF-99 Channel) handheld it was all in the RSS software. I forget the exact "F" keys to push but it's done thru the software. I know the HT1250 is a much newer radio but.....

It's been quite a few years since I have touched one of those, but the basics you need to do are:
1 - in the signalling section of the navigation tree in the software, you need to create a MDC signalling system if one does not already exist.
2 - assign yourself a radio ID, even if you are not going to transmit the MDC.
3 - in your channel personality, there should be a signalling drop down to select that MDC system you created.

In all of my VHF radios, I have them setup to decode MDC on all of the channels, but I do not transmit. So, if anyone is using it, I will see their ID on my screen.

In the general radio setup, there is 1 more place where you may need to check, emergency revert. I don't remember if you need to do anything with it, but it might be some place that could throw an error at you.

Ok thank you for the good info. Much appreciated. I am up and running with the RSS software just waiting for my cables to show up but I'll use this as a reference.

The HT1250’s use CPS, as I recall. Refer to post 3, that will get you started.

DOS (Data Operated Squelch). Set this to about 200, and you’ll be good.

Its called call alert it will beep. you can set it up to just beep or beep with voice or work like a pager until you get a mdc code to alert the radio.

I’m not talking about paging and that stuff. I’m referring to when you’re done talking on the Radio, the other radio hears the MDC Squawk, and I want it to instead have it as the simple mdc beep afterwards instead.

"Other" radios will only beep if those radios have DOS (data operated squelch) enabled, otherwise those radios will have the entire mdc packet (squawk) audible. Your radio cannot control how other radios decode mdc.

My favorite MDC-1200 ID I've used in the past is DEAD (hexadecimal number). BEEF would be fun to use as an ID. :)

For you to have the chirp at end receiving others simply enable a mdc perosnality in the convenational personality for each one you wish to hear the chirp receiving mdc over the long tone squawk.

Set the rx system in the signaling tab in each conventional personality to mdc-1 or whichever mdc id system you setup.

In mdc system drop down from main menu set dos tab to 1200 or 1800 hz.

Under the messages tab in mdc system 1 or which ever system number you have check the box for message decode.

Make sure conventional personalities are set to and/or muting conditions in the options tab in the unmute rule then in the signaling tab set your mdc system in the rx and set the signal squelch to or.

I'd like to disable mine but I forget the actual reverse process lol.

If you have a annoying hum after in the audio when using mdc it is a well known issue most waris series had. This fix is in the tuning end and you'd have to change a value.

If you have that issue let me know and I'll pull up the window for that in the tuning. It isn't the tuning itself but a hz setting in the tuning part of the tuner program for the radio.

If you'd like pm me and I'll look at your plug by email comparing it side by side to mine and help you get mdc to dos decode (chirp) for you.

I am thinking to if you have a LS version you may not be able to program mdc as the LS versions or most as far as I know of that version lacked mdc for the LS features.

It’s called DOS. It’s in the software in the MDC section.

I tried doing what you said, but it's still the squawk instead of the simple beep even after following your instructions. I can Email you my codeplug and maybe you can try to make it work for me? I'm not sure what else to do. I have a regular conventional HT-1250, not the LS or LS+
