To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

PIN 13 "Channel Activity" out of the 05 control head won't go LOW when Receiving on my XTL 5000 High Power.

I'm thinking the issue is either the control head itself, or a setting I missed in ASTRO 25 Mobile CPS.

Firmware is up to date.

I am building my own XTL (VHF High Power) to APX (UHF/7/8) cross-band repeater setup. I have tested between two 8500's and all works.

Any thoughts as to my PIN 13 05 Control Head wont go low when the XTL 5000 receives a qualified RF signal?

All I am getting is constant 4.67vDC

Per the BSM, the "Channel Activity Indicator" line should go low for 1.8 seconds beginning one second after power-up.
As a test, connect your voltmeter to this line (referenced to ground) then power cycle the radio to check for the presence of the
1.8 second transition to low, then back to a high state.

Note that a DVM may not respond fast enough to display the short duration pulse (low) and you may have to use a conventional
VOM or a logic probe to observe the pulse.

Great, the hardware checks out! What mode is your receiver channel being used to drive the activity indicator configured for?
IE: FM CSQ, FM PL/DPL or P25 NAC? Any "Qualified" channel activity should cause this line to go low, but I've never tested this at
the back of the CH with a HP remote head configuration.

Perhaps recheck the channel activity indicator logic swing with the line floating (disconnected from the transmitter radio).

Sorry, it's been a while, is the channel activity indicator function perhaps tied to the "Record Audio" option being enabled to "Rx Audio"
before it will work. (Radio Wide - Advanced)
