• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello, I've searched a couple forums to try and find a solution before posting, but nothing really helps. I recently acquired a Moto HT1000 UHF 450-520Mhz, and I'm having some issues with it. I have a few antennas, which not all of them work. I have a UHF High gain stubby, a Baofeng Dual band, and a Nagoya NA-771 dual band. The only antenna that allows me to RX & TX is the Baofeng antenna, and it's still super scratchy, even right next to the repeater. I know the radio is pretty old but its worth a shot asking. Thanks in advance!

To answer some questions that will probably help:

Where did you get the radio? I purchased it from eBay from a private seller.

What kind of radio are you trying to talk to? I'm trying to reach the Tiger Mountain repeater in Issaquah WA.

Who programmed the radio? I did the programming with the ancient RSS Software lol.

Do you have a license? Yes, GMRS WSHL538.

Yeah, it's really hard to beat the Motorola OEM antennas. They are designed to work with these radios and I've found they work better than everything else.

Just make sure you are getting —REAL— OEM Motorola antennas. There's a $**† ton of fake/bootleg/counterfeit Motorola antennas that get sold on Amazon and e-Bay. It really is worth paying a bit extra and buying from a known Motorola dealer.

I've learned that from using fleabay. You'd think I'd learn the first time lol.

Many years ago someone at the PD I support got the bright idea that they could save a buck or two by purchasing the cheap after market antennas, speaker mics and batteries.

It didn't go well.

There is some good after market stuff, but with so many sources now, it gets really hard to know what is what. Far to easy too get junk.

The only antenna aftermarket antenna I've found that is worthwhile on any Motorola radio is the BK Technologies Range Max antenna and there are some fitment issues there where the Range Max may need a trim to fit into the gap correctly. Pretty significant upgrade actually but Range Max is only for VHF…so won't do you any good for 7/800 MHz or VHF.

Might have found an OEM dealer, Day wireless. I call tomorrow. I want to use my VHF for GMRS but unfortunately, I don't think there are any VHF frequencies capable of GMRS. I'm new to GMRS stuff so I'm just looking around. Thanks for your help everyone!

Would be surprised if the local shop stocks what you need, but maybe one of the other model radio antennas will fit.

There are no VHF GMRS frequencies. There are no VHF frequencies you can use these radios on legally without an FCC issued amateur radio license or an FCC issued Part 90 business/industrial type license.

If you want to use GMRS, you need to have a UHF radio that has FCC Part 95 type acceptance. That's required by the rules that you agreed to follow when you applied for your license.
