Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm having an issue programming an HT1250. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium, a USB RIBless programming cable with the FTDI Chipset, and Professional Series CPS R06.12.09 with a valid license/subscription.

Using the same identical setup I have no issues reading and writing an HT750 and other HT1250s, however when I try to read the codeplug from this one HT1250 I get the following error:

"Couldn't open port.Check whether device/RIB are powered on or not, and the Device to RIB, and the RIB to PC connection is OK."

I am using the File ----> Read Device... sequence rather than to toolbar shortcut also.

I'm a little stumped, I have successfully programmed other radios with this setup and I'm not sure what the problem might be.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

If you can connect to other HTs and successfully read and write, I'd have to suspect the contacts on the side of the radio in question as a first step. Give them a good cleaning and see if that solves the problem. Step #2 would be to check to see if the flex cable between the contacts and the radio circuit is properly connected or damaged.

Thanks Steve!

I found the problem. I purchased the radio used from someone who usually does nice work. However when he refurbed this unit he was sloppy with the escutcheon sticker over the universal connector. It was slightly off causing the cable to not make the proper connections.

I can't believe I missed that. Anyways, It's fixed now.

Thank you!
