• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I remember that gadget. The one that temporarily screws to the back of the radio in place of the antenna launcher?

Haven't seen one in years but there's another big hamfest and swap meet coming up in my neck of the woods next month and I'll keep my eyes peeled. Don't expect anything but miracles do happen.

Its not really a cable.
It is called a "cable" in some docs, and a "kit" and an "adapter" in others.
The adapter name is the best description.
It essentially is a balun or antenna impedance adapter.
You need two things, one can be made from cutting the top off of an old expansion "frame" so that you can work on the radio
with all the boards "unfolded".
The more difficult one to find is part number 1V80793A93.
It consists of a small aluminum box containing the impedance adapter circuit.
It has a BNC elbow on one end and a "plug" that inserts into the antenna hole in the radio.
There is also a metal tab that contacts the side of the metal frame.
I suppose you could improvise a replacement, but who knows what the impedance is supposed to be?

I've seen a version that actually required you to remove at least the back cover and spacer frame on non-slimline (omni) models, that screwed on in place of it, which was for bench service only. Got no idea what its part number would be and it must have been around the mid-late 80s when I saw it.

I remember a fair amount about HT220s. General stuff. Like 5 watt 4 channel Omni models that put out over 10 watts on the wattmeter, if the battery contacts were up to it. All kinds of crazy SP models that I should have bought at hamfests when they were dirt cheap, like the Coronary Observation Radios with their data connections to connect to the heart monitor. And the SP versions that were remote mic only, the front cover had no speaker or mic or even a grille. HT220s with SCAN. They did all kinds of crazy things. By rights there should be a museum of SP model HT220s. There sure were enough of them.
